Giants’ Malik Nabers Sends Honest Message on Commanders Loss: ‘Sick to My Stomach’

Giants receiver Malik Nabers said he's still sick over the Week 1 loss to the Commanders.

Malik Nabers still isn’t over the Giants’ dismal start to the season. Days after the disheartening 21-6 loss to the Commanders, the Pro Bowl receiver said reviewing film from the game made him sick.

“I went to look at it a little bit, got frustrated again, turned it off. Sick to my stomach,” Nabers said Wednesday after practice. “Just overall, not even saying the whole team, just my gameplay. I’m going to start with mine first. I believe I’m a key part of this offense, so when I don’t play right, the energy is not right. But like I said, got sick to my stomach and turned it off.”

The Giants had hoped this season would be different, that by simply turning the page, their fortunes would change for the better. But in reality, it was more of the same, a sobering reminder of how far the once-proud franchise has fallen.

The Giants became the third team in NFL history to score six or fewer points in three straight openers, matching a dubious feat last accomplished by the 1942 Lions.

Nabers Promises to Channel Frustrations Better

Sunday was a frustrating day for the Giants. Not only did they lose, but they were also non-competitive.

The Giants managed just 231 total yards and were one of three teams that failed to crack double digits on the scoreboard.

Frustration was a constant companion for the 22-year-old Nabers, who at one point was seen having a spirited exchange with head coach Brian Daboll.

Nabers, who had five catches on 12 targets for 71 yards, said Daboll spoke to him afterward about being more aware of his sideline demeanor.

“I know I got to take a different route now,” Nabers said. “Just how I did it the last time wasn’t the right way, it’s kind of going everywhere right now. I’m trying to find a different way to try and get guys going. Whether it’s going over and tapping them on the shoulder, giving them a key point … rather than speaking abrupt and loud and being aggressive. Just trying to take some different routes to do that.”

Giants Hope to End Skid Against Cowboys

The Giants will look to avoid a third consecutive 0-2 start when they visit the Cowboys in Week 2.

Nabers was limited in practice Wednesday with a back issue, though Daboll didn’t sound concerned about the star playmaker’s availability for Sunday.

Dallas has won 15 of the last 16 meetings between the NFC East rivals, including the last eight, dating to 2016.

Nabers, who had 20 catches for 184 yards in two losses to the Cowboys last season, was asked about his level of frustration with the one-sided nature of the rivalry.

He wasn’t quite sure how to answer.

“Not answering that one,” Nabers told a reporter, before walking off.
