The New York Giants continue to quietly shape their offseason roster, adding young talent with potential to make an impact in 2026. The latest move comes in the form of offensive lineman Jake Kubas, who has signed a reserve/futures contract with the team. Kubas, a versatile guard from North Dakota State, gives the Giants flexibility along the interior of the offensive line and adds depth in a group that remains a priority for the organization.
Kubas Brings Flexibility and NFL Experience
Jake Kubas isn’t a household name — yet. But the 25-year-old guard has already shown he can step in and perform when called upon. After going undrafted out of North Dakota State in 2024, Kubas earned a spot with the Giants and appeared in multiple games as a rookie, including starts at both left and right guard.
His ability to play multiple positions along the interior line gives the Giants flexibility, something that New York typically values as the team looks to solidify a group that has been inconsistent in recent seasons. At 6-foot-4 and 308 pounds, Kubas has the size, athleticism, and toughness to handle both run-blocking and pass-protection duties in the NFL.
This training camp saw Kubas have his shot to compete for the starting right guard position, but he was unable to unseat veteran Greg Van Roten. With New York utilizing Aaron Stinnie and Evan Neal as their backups, Kubas spent the entire season on the practice squad.
A reserve/futures deal ensures Kubas will be part of the Giants’ 90-man offseason roster, giving him a shot to compete in OTAs, minicamps, and training camp. For a player with his experience, it’s a chance to take the next step and fight for a rotational role or even a starting spot in 2026.
Developmental Piece with Upside for 2026
The Giants have emphasized interior line depth under GM Joe Schoen, and Kubas fits the mold of a low-risk, high-upside developmental piece. He’s familiar with the system, has NFL game experience, and brings the kind of work ethic and mental toughness teams covet in young linemen.
While he won’t make headlines like a first-round pick, Kubas represents the kind of methodical roster building that can pay big dividends. His versatility could be a key factor if injuries strike or the team looks to rotate linemen to keep the starters fresh.
After the season, the Giants gave Kubas time to weigh his options, but he decided to return to Big Blue, showing his dedication to the franchise despite being relegated to the practice squad this season. That dedication has now been rewarded with a new contract.
Kubas was not the only player who was signed to a reserve/future contract after the conclusion of the 2025 season. Six other players were also signed today, including LB Swayze Bozeman, TE Tanner Conner, OLB Trace Ford, OT Reid Holskey, S Patrick McMorris, and CB Myles Purchase.
Giants fans should keep an eye on Kubas during the offseason. He could quietly become an important contributor in the trenches, and a strong showing in OTAs and training camp could cement his role on a line that will be crucial to the team’s 2026 success.
