Not much, if anything, has gone right for the New York Giants. Now, in addition to all the losing, they have a key injury to worry about.

Running back Tryone Tracy Jr. is expected to miss two to four weeks with a dislocated shoulder, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Tracy sustained the injury in Sunday’s 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Tracy came up holding his right shoulder after getting sandwiched by cornerback Jaylen Watson and linebacker Jrue Tranquill late in the first quarter and did not return. He finished with 29 yards rushing on seven carries to go with two catches for seven yards.

The Giants fell to 0-3, one of six winless teams remaining this season.

Rookie Expected to Take Over as Giants Lead RB

Tracy had been the Giants’ No. 1 running back, but that role will now go to rookie fourth-rounder Cam Skattebo, who has come on strong since missing time in the preseason with a hamstring injury.

Skattebo was the easily the Giants’ best player on offense against Kansas City, rushing for 60 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and catching six passes for 61 yards. In a Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Skattebo had 11 carries for 45 yards and his first NFL touchdown.

Veteran Devin Singletary, who has eight totes for 24 yards this season, will see a bigger workload with Tracy out.

The Giants rank 12th in total offense through three games (339.2 yards/game), though that figure is slightly misleading. They were overmatched in Weeks 1 and 3, combining to score just 15 points.

As another Giants season spirals out of control, the conversation has shifted to a potential change at quarterback. Head coach Brian Daboll left the door open on Monday by remaining non-committal on Russell Wilson as his starter while rookie first-rounder Jaxson Dart waits in the wings.

Tracy’s Role Had Been Diminished Before Injury

A fifth-round pick in 2024, Tracy had an encouraging rookie season, rushing for 839 yards (4.4 yards/carry) and five touchdowns. Despite that, his role has seemingly declined in Year 2. He ran the ball 10 times for 24 yards in the opener before getting just five carries the following week.

Following Sunday’s game, Wilson spoke about the impact of losing Tracy.

“It’s tough when you see a guy like Tracy, one of your star running backs, go down with a shoulder on the sideline,” Wilson said, via the New York Post. “Had a couple of runs, couple of good plays. So, I think that was tough for us, but I thought we continued to battle.”

The Giants host the Los Angeles Chargers (3-0) in Week 4.
