In one of the more shocking moves of the early 2026 offseason, the Baltimore Ravens decided to move on from longtime head coach John Harbaugh on Tuesday.

In 18 seasons, Harbaugh accumulated a 180-113 record, including 13-11 in the playoffs and one Super Bowl victory.

He immediately becomes the top coach available in the current hiring cycle, and a guy with the winning resume that the New York Giants have desperately been looking for since Tom Coughlin was rushed out the door.

Luckily for fans, he seems to be the leader in the clubhouse, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

The Giants should absolutely be doing everything in their power to bring Harbaugh in as their next head coach, and if he has any hesitations about the power structure in place, they should make the personnel decisions that he sees fit.

Giants Should Fire Joe Schoen if John Harbaugh Demands It

Harbaugh hasn’t been brought in on any interviews yet, let alone the New York Giants.

But when he starts examining the options for his next gig, he may decide that he’ll want his own general manager in the building with him, and the Giants have made it clear that Joe Schoen is their guy.

If Harbaugh is insistent that he has his own handpicked general manager, Austen Bundy of FanSided urged New York to cut ties with Schoen to guarantee they land their ideal head coaching candidate.

“Harbaugh may be eager to work with a talent like Dart but if he’s got zero reliable protection and the defense is built on nothing but blitz potential and a Swiss cheese secondary, he’s going to need some future assurances. That may come in the form of booting Schoen,” wrote Bundy.

“It wouldn’t be an unprecedented demand. The Jacksonville Jaguars fired general manager Trent Baalke in order to land current head coach Liam Coen and after just one year the team is back in the playoffs with 13 wins.”

Following the Jacksonville Jaguars blueprint would absolutely be the right choice in the event Harbaugh creates a “him-or-me” situation with Giants ownership.

That being said, the former Baltimore Ravens coach hasn’t made any such demands, and could ultimately be open to working with the incumbent general manager.

John Harbaugh’s Perfect Giants Fit

Taking Schoen out of the equation, Harbaugh is the New York Giants’ dream candidate, and they should do everything in their power to convince him to take the job.

His experience and winning pedigree could transform the organization and lead to a quick turnaround, considering the talent New York already has in place.

SNY’s Connor Hughes reported that the Giants have already done extensive work on the Super Bowl-winning head coach and remain incredibly interested due to what he brings to the table.

“There is so, so much that needs to happen before any hire is possible, but considering what they’re looking for? Leader of men, Culture builder, Track record of winning, Winning in big moments,” wrote Hughes.

“Not sure he’s someone you want to let out of your building once he’s inside it.”

Once Harbaugh is ready to start interviewing, the Giants should take Hughes’ advice and not let him walk out the door once he enters the facility.
