The New York Giants let a former draft pick from their crosstown team go on Friday, designating cornerback and former New York Jets draft pick Jarrick Bernard-Converse as waived due to injury.
“Giants Jarrick Bernard-Converse waived/injured,” NFL reporter Aaron Wilson wrote on his official X account on Friday.
Bernard-Converse, 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, was a 6th-round pick (No. 204 overall) by the Jets in the 2023 NFL Draft. He played 2 seasons for the Jets before splitting the 2025 season between the Cleveland Browns and the Giants.
Transferred to LSU for Final College Season
Bernard-Converse played 4 seasons for Oklahoma State and was an All-Big 12 pick in 2021 before transferring to LSU for his final season.
“Bernard-Converse has spent a majority of his snaps as either an off-man or press-man cornerback, but he’ll likely have to make a switch to safety in order to compete for a roster spot in the future,” NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote in his 2023 pre-draft evaluation. “He’s big and strong, but he needs to become more of a run-through finisher than drag-down tackler. Sticky hips in transitions are a major concern relative to coverage tasks in space, and he fails to show the desired level of instincts he might need to range over the top as a pro.”
Giants Dealing With Injury Issues at Cornerback
The Giants have enough injury issues at cornerback at this point in training camp that they might be looking outside for help.
“CB Dru Phillips has a mild knee sprain but will miss some time,” ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan wrote on his official X account on Thursday. “CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse also didn’t practice again and is dealing with a nagging knee problem. Coach John Harbaugh said the Giants might sign another cornerback.”
Phillips was a 2024 3rd-round pick (No. 71 overall) who has started 14 games over the last 2 seasons and shown a penchant for making big plays. In his 1st 31 career games, he has 127 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 15 pass deflections.
The injury was suffered during Wednesday’s practice.
“Giants starting defense gave up TDs on 3 straight plays inside 5 YL to second team offense,” Giants reporter Ryan Dunleavy wrote on his official X account on Wednesday. “On the third, slot CB Dru Phillips injured his lower right leg and was down for a while before trying to jog to the side with trainers … Ar’Darius Washington replaced him.”
“Giants nickel Dru Phillips left practice with an apparent lower leg injury, but John Harbaugh said he thought it was ‘something small’ and that he’d be fine,” USA Today’s Art Stapleton wrote on his official X account on Wednesday.
