The New York Jets went on a free agency spending spree on the first day of the legal tampering period.
Running back Breece Hall noticed.
“Damn we sure got a lot of money in Florham Park all these contracts dudes signing🤣🤣🤣,” Hall responded.
He immediately caught some flak from people on social media because Hall will at least get the franchise tag in 2026. That is a one-year deal for $14.3 million, which slots in as the fifth-highest-paid running back in the NFL, per Over The Cap.
“Absolutely correct! 53 players on a team, gotta spend money to fill needs. Jets actually made sure our RB got $14 million guaranteed this year which was awesome!,” NYJ Matt sarcastically responded.
Hall added, “I definitely be pocket watching in free agency lmao😂😂😂😭.”
A fan told Hall that he must like the Jets’ free agent signings so far. Hall responded, “I am ngl, filling a lot of holes rn!!”
Hall wasn’t afraid to say the quiet part out loud on social media: “I’m happy we spending shii we need to!”
Also interstingly Hall reposted Jets content creator Paul Fiore’s post, “Everyone relax. Breece is Breece. Lol” Fiore was essentially telling people to stop overreacting to Hall’s social media activity, which apparently Hall agreed with.
Hall Extension Talks Are Now on the Back Burner
The Jets attempted to hammer out a long-term deal with Hall ahead of the franchise tag deadline on March 3. They were unable to work it out, so they tagged him so he wouldn’t go anywhere.
The only way Hall can leave is if another team signs the talented tailback to an offer sheet. If the Jets didn’t match it, they would receive two future first-round draft choices as compensation.
The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t willing to give up a third-round pick at the NFL trade deadline. No team in the league is going to give up that insane price to acquire Hall.
So, in other words, the former Iowa State product isn’t going anywhere any time soon.
Any potential extension will now have to wait. The Jets have bigger fish to fry. They are in the middle of the NFL’s legal tampering period, and the new league year starts on Wednesday, March 11 at 4 pm ET.
Those are more pressing matters than Hall’s contract status.
Patience Might Not Be a Virtue
The Jets have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal with Hall. If they get past that date, Hall’s only choice will be to play on the franchise tag in 2026.
The longer the Jets wait, the more it could cost them.
During the first day of the legal tampering period, the Chiefs signed Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III to a three-year, $45 million contract. That deal also included $28.7 million fully guaranteed, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
That new $14.35 milion annual salary made Walker the No. 4 highest-paid running back in the NFL, per Over The Cap.
“I think he also had a tweet that I think he deleted. He was responding to somebody who said something about what Kenneth Walker was making and whether he should be making more. Breece responded, ‘Better situation than me with less production, not including playoffs lol.’ He deleted that,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic explained on the “Flight Plan” podcast.
“I think Breece just probably wants a multi-year deal, and I think they’re working towards that. I think they probably won’t do it now for a little bit because free agency has started,” Rosenblatt added.
