Several members of the New York Jets coaching staff will return in 2026.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic deemed several Jets offensive coaches as safe amid some expected turnover on the staff.
“As for the rest of the staff, what I’ve heard, I know for sure that the O-Line coach Steve Heiden, the tight ends coach [Jeff Blasko], and the wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson are all for sure back,” Rosenblatt revealed on “Jets Final Drive.”
He reiterated that all of the assistant defensive position coaches “are all in a holding pattern right now until they hire the DC. I think the DC is going to have a say in who comes back. So those guys are kind of just waiting to hear their fate.”
The Minimal Leaks From Jets Building Were a Concerted Effort
When the Jets released their first wave of virtual interviews for the DC gig, there were plenty of surprises. That is because the majority of those interviews that took place weren’t shared with the public.
NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY revealed that there was a concerted effort to make that happen this offseason by the Jets’ key decision makers.
“I remember calling a coaching agent this week and was like ‘hey man, just curious, like it has been real quiet on the Jets’ defensive coordinator front, like, what have you heard? Who has been interviewing?'” Hughes explained on “Jets Final Drive.”
Hughes said this coaching agent is “very, very plugged in, like these coaching agents know every single agent. They all know every single agent, they know where every coach is being interviewed, and who they’re talking to.”
“I had one of my guys interview, if you don’t mind, can you keep it on the down low because the Jets have told all of us: do not tell the media who is interviewing or where you are interviewing. We do not want this. We want to keep it completely and totally in-house,” an anonymous coaching agent told Hughes.
“So the reason why there haven’t been any breaks, as far as like who is interviewing, is because the Jets have said keep this in house, keep this under wraps,” Hughes said.
The Jets interviewed eight people virtually in the initial wave. Three of the eight names leaked out to the media.
Minnesota Vikings defensive pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach Daronte Jones got out on social media. The Wink Martindale rumors were hot and heavy from multiple team insiders. Finally, former Miami Dolphins cornerbacks coach Mathieu Araujo leaked mere hours before the full list came out from the green and white.
For the most part, they did a great job of keeping everything secretive.
Jets Got Rejected During Their DC Search
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic revealed in a column this week that Coach Glenn got rejected by several candidates in his search for the next DC.
Some additional context was provided on “Jets Final Drive.”
NFL Insider Connor Hughes revealed that the Jets did reach out to “two of the big name defensive coordinating candidates who were avaialbe and both candidates just weren’t interested in working for the Jets and Aaron Glenn at this time.”
Rosenblatt doubled down on that, saying he had heard that “there have been more than [those two people] that were like no thank you, I don’t really want to take that interview.”
Both insiders explained that this isn’t an attractive job. Glenn’s uncertain future and the defensive roster construction play a role in that.
