$12.5 Million Veteran QB Listed as ‘Potential’ Trade Target for Jets: Insider

A new potential trade target has emerged for the New York Jets.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini name-dropped Arizona Cardinals veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett as a potential option the team could explore this offseason.

Brissett, 33, has one year left on his $12.5 million contract he signed with the Cardinals.

The Perfect Bridge Quarterback

If you pulled out a dictionary and looked up the word bridge quarterback, you’d discover a picture of Jacoby Brissett.

The former Florida and NC State product entered the NFL as the No. 91 overall pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft.

In his rookie season with the New England Patriots, Brissett won a Super Bowl ring as a backup quarterback. Then the journey around the world began for Brissett.

Since 2017, he has played for six teams, including a second stint on the Patriots.

Across his 10 seasons in the NFL, he has appeared in 100 games and has made 64 starts. He has a 20-44 record as a starting quarterback.

With those opportunities, Brissett has completed 61.8% of his passes, has thrown for 14,523 passing yards, and has a 74 touchdown to 31 interception ratio.

Brissett is also somewhat fleet of foot. He has toted the rock 280 times for 1,126 rushing yards. Brissett has averaged four yards per carry and has scored 16 touchdowns on the ground.

What Would It Cost to Acquire Him?

The veteran passer is under contract in 2026. That means the only way the Jets could acquire him is by striking a trade with Arizona.

Brissett has been traded once previously in his NFL career.

In 2017, he was flipped in a rare player-for-player trade: Brissett for wide receiver Phillip Dorsett from the Indianapolis Colts.

Considering how important and valued the quarterback position is, the Jets would likely have to cough up a high-day-three pick or a late-day-two pick.

In other words, on the high end, a third round draft choice, but maybe you could get away with a fourth or fifth round pick.

Brissett isn’t a franchise quarterback by any means, but he is serviceable. The Jets likely won’t be the only team interested in acquiring his services this offseason, so that has to be factored in.

Quick Aside…

We cover the Jets here, not the Cardinals. With that being said, why would Arizona trade Brissett?

There are plenty of rumors floating around that the Cardinals plan on moving on from Kyler Murray. Would they also move on from Brissett in the same offseason?

They would be left with just two quarterbacks on the roster: Kedon Slovis and Logan Woodside. Woodside is on the practice squad, and Slovis is currently the backup QB with all of the injuries at the position.

Again, to reiterate, we cover the Jets here, not the Cardinals, but that would be a choice.

If Arizona is willing to tango, then the Jets should 100% be interested. Brissett can be a guy who can hold down the fort, paired with a rookie developing behind the scenes.

He is a professional quarterback, and I mean that as a compliment. Brissett is a leader in the locker room and he can get the ball from point A to point B on the field.
