The New York Jets season has come to an end, but the excitement for Jets fans is just beginning as the 2026 NFL Draft continues to inch closer. This has become almost an annual tradition for a fan base that has now suffered through 10 consecutive losing seasons.

This upcoming draft is highly anticipated for the Jets, who hold strong draft capital in the first round. New York owns the second overall pick, along with the 16th overall selection via Indianapolis, giving the team a major opportunity to improve the roster.

Most of the talk has focused on what the Jets will do with the number two overall pick, with many believing they will select a quarterback. There has been much less discussion about the 16th pick, as it has flown under the radar due to the attention on the top selection. Still, that spot gives the Jets a chance to land a top tier player in the draft.

In a recent mock draft by Danny Kelly of The Ringer, the Jets are projected to select Jordyn Tyson out of Arizona State, who many believe is the top wide receiver in the draft.

In the same mock draft, Kelly has the Jets selecting Oregon quarterback Dante Moore with the second overall pick, which plays a major role in his projection of New York targeting Tyson at No. 16.

“After taking their quarterback of the future with the No. 2 pick, the Jets turn around and get him some playmaking talent. Tyson is a good-sized pass catcher who runs routes with sharp, sudden cuts, and he gets open with top-tier burst and acceleration,” Kelly wrote. “Alongside Garrett Wilson, Tyson provides a big boost to Dante Moore in his development as a franchise quarterback.”

More on Tyson

Tyson is a highly touted prospect, as longtime ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has the Arizona State product ranked as the No. 7 overall prospect and the top wide receiver on his 2026 draft big board.

“Tyson’s superpower is being open even when it looks like he’s completely blanketed. It makes him essentially uncoverable in the red zone. He wins on 50-50 balls and outmuscles defensive backs,” Kiper wrote.

The star wide receiver put together several big performances in what was not a full season due to a hamstring injury.

“This season, Tyson recorded four 100-yard receiving games, including a 105-yard effort in Arizona State’s upset win over Texas Tech. Tyson missed several games in November with a lingering hamstring injury,” wrote ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

With Tyson’s proven production and high ceiling at the NFL level, if the Arizona State wide receiver falls to No. 16, do not be surprised if he ends up in New York.

What This Pick Would Mean for the Jets Offense

If the Jets were to select Tyson, their offense would get an immediate boost, as the team clearly needs more weapons in the passing game.

New York already has a star number one receiver in Garrett Wilson, but they are missing a reliable number two option.

A duo of Wilson and Tyson would be a frightening matchup for opposing defenses, and perhaps more importantly, adding a player like Tyson would give the Jets’ next quarterback another strong, dependable weapon in the passing game.
