After one of the worst seasons in franchise history, the New York Jets are expected to make significant moves during the offseason to address the weaknesses exposed in their 2025 roster.
One position the Jets may look to address in the 2026 free agency market is wide receiver. The team is missing a reliable WR2 to pair with star wide receiver Garrett Wilson heading into the offseason.
Nick Faria of Jets X-Factor recently urged New York to go after Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce in 2026 free agency.
“The Jets’ offense needs playmakers—simple as that. Alec Pierce certainly fits the bill,” wrote Faria. “The 2022 second-round pick has established himself as one of the league’s premier deep threats. Pierce led the league in yards per reception in each of the last two seasons and is coming off his first career 1,000-yard season.”
Pierce, 25, will be one of the most sought-after players in free agency. If the Jets sign him, they would suddenly have one of the league’s more dangerous wide receiver duos in Wilson and Pierce.

Insight on Pierce
There is no question that the Jets need help at the wide receiver position. Aside from Wilson, who only played seven games in 2025 due to injury, the most productive receiver was Adonai Mitchell, with 301 receiving yards, according to ESPN.
Pierce is coming off a 2025 season in which he totaled 1,003 receiving yards, six touchdowns, and averaged 21.3 yards per reception over 15 games, per ESPN.
Adding Pierce to a Jets offense that struggled in the passing game last season would be an immediate game changer for New York.
Garrett Podell of CBS Sports has Pierce ranked as the sixth-best pending free agent for the 2026 offseason.
“Pierce led the NFL in yards per reception in 2024 (22.3) and 2025 (21.3), making him the first player to lead NFL in yards/reception in consecutive seasons since Denver Broncos wide receiver Ashley Lelie in 2004 (20.1) and 2005 (18.3), per CBS Sports Research. Pierce’s speed at 6-3, while weighing 211 pounds, is a rare combination,” wrote Podell.
With over $90 million in projected cap space, the Jets are in a position to chase one of the top pending free agents of the 2026 offseason, Pierce.

Other Wide Receivers the Jets Might Target
While Pierce would provide an instant boost at wide receiver, the Jets could also address the position through their substantial draft capital in 2026.
In the first round, the Jets hold the second overall pick, as well as the 16th overall pick.
With the 2026 NFL Draft being strong at the wide receiver position, many have linked New York to selecting a wide receiver at pick 16.
Names such as Makai Lemon (USC), Denzel Boston (Washington), and KC Concepcion (Texas A&M) are all expected to be available at pick 16, each with the potential to become strong receivers in the NFL.
