New York Jets owner Woody Johnson speaks at the press conference introducing head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey at Atlantic Health Jets Training Center.

The New York Jets will be hanging onto head coach Aaron Glenn heading into 2026, for better or for worse.

After a 3-14 finish in his first season on the job, fans are rightfully upset with how Glenn’s first year as a head coach went.

Despite the personnel that was on the field, New York was lifeless in their final five games, losing by 23 points or more in each contest.

But Jets fans will be pleased to hear that owner Woody Johnson is frustrated with how the season turned out as well, and ESPN’s Jets insider Rich Cimini reported that the “pissed” Johnson didn’t even attend the team’s final three games.

Woody Johnson ‘Unhappy’ With How Jets Closed the Season

In the 2025 wrap-up episode of his podcast Flight Deck, Cimini shared an update on Glenn and Johnson, reporting that while the head coach is set to return for another season, all is not well in the world of the New York Jets.

“Woody Johnson is committed to Aaron Glenn. Now, call him crazy, but that’s the situation. I can tell you this, Johnson was not happy by the finish to the season, despite the circumstances. He had a rookie quarterback, some injuries, evaluations, some quote-unquote tanking. He was not happy to see his team get blown out five times in a row in historic fashion,” said Cimini.

“As you know, first team in NFL history to lose five straight by 23 or more points. That’s incredible. Not even (Rich) Kotite did that, not even (Adam) Gase. And so, Woody, from what I understand, didn’t even go to the last three games, which is unlike him. So, just because he didn’t fire Glenn does not mean he’s not unhappy. Does not mean he’s happy, rather. He was pissed.”

Johnson not even attending the team’s final games is rather alarming. How does the owner not even bother to show up, while asking season ticket holders and fans to continue to support the team in another lowly season?

Glenn is going to be on the Jets sideline in 2026; that much is clear.

But how short of a leash will the coach have if the team starts slow next season?

Can Aaron Glenn Turn the Jets Around?

Glenn enters 2026 in year two of a five-year, $50 million contract, according to New York Daily News reporter Gary Myers.

If anything, he’ll be around for another season because Johnson doesn’t want to eat $40 million on the coach’s contract, but there should also be some legitimate hope that Glenn can figure out a way to turn the New York Jets around.

The former player-turned-coach was part of the Detroit Lions rebuild that saw them go from picking No. 2 overall in their first year under Dan Campbell to a perennial playoff contender in just two short seasons.

Even Alvin Kamara, a player Glenn coached during his time with the New Orleans Saints, believes in his ability to flip the script in New York.

“I don’t even want to speak, I just want it to happen. Because I know AG. You hear things, you see things people are saying, that it’s terrible. But I’m like: They don’t know what we know. It’s a process. You just wait for the process to be executed and then you’re like: Shoot, I ain’t surprised.”

All Jets fans can do is hope Glenn figures it out; otherwise, they’ll be back in the hiring cycle in 2027.
