The A.J. Brown updates were coming in fast early on Friday. The situation appears to still be fluid, with differing reports that contradict each other.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini added another update Friday — somehow, a resolution will be coming soon.
According to Russini, that’s what the Philadelphia Eagles want. That’s what Brown’s trade suitors hope to have too.
“The Eagles and teams involved in A.J. Brown trade discussions want the situation resolved in the next couple days so they can move on to the rest of their offseason planning and identify other players on their wishlists,” wrote Russini on X.
Brown has played the past four seasons for the Eagles. In his first three campaigns, the wideout made second-team All-Pro.
But after a trying 2025 campaign with no All-Pro or Pro Bowl nomination for Brown, the Eagles are shopping with wideout on the trade market.
Contradicting Reports on A.J. Brown Trade Situation
FOX Sports Radio’s Anthony Gargano hosted NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on his show Friday morning. During their conversation about Brown, Gargano stated the New England Patriots offered their first- and third-round selections for Brown.
The Eagles, though, rejected that offer.
However, Russini, herself, threw cold water on that report. She tweeted Friday morning no team, including the Patriots, have submitted an offer to the Eagles for their No. 1 wideout.
“While teams have been internally discussing potential trade packages for A.J. Brown, no team has made an official offer to the Eagles, per multiple sources,” wrote Russini.
Ultimately, it probably doesn’t really matter who is right. The clear indication is the Eagles have a high asking price for the receiver. The Patriots, and other potential suitors, have not met it.
Clearly, that’s the case since Brown remains in Philadelphia.
Russini’s follow-up tweet was just as key. With a clear deadline to get a trade done, it will be interesting to see if there’s any pressure from either side to raise the potential offer or lower the asking price.
The fact there’s a deadline could work in Philadelphia’s favor. Or, it could force general manager Howie Roseman to cave in negotiations.
Will the Eagles Trade Their Top Wide Receiver?
The likelihood Roseman “caves,” though, appears pretty unlikely. The Eagles have reportedly presented the front this offseason they don’t have to move Brown. They are willing to trade him only if they receive a great offer.
Again, regardless of whether the Patriots submitted an offer or not, everything indicates the Eagles are still working under the assumption they don’t have to trade the wideout.
Brown is a 3-time Pro Bowl and 3-time second-team All-Pro receiver. He’s reached 1,000 receiving yards in all four of his campaigns in Philadelphia.
With Brown on the roster, the Eagles have won a Super Bowl and played in another.
During 2025, Brown still posted 78 catches, 1,003 receiving yards and seven touchdowns despite reoccurring drama. There appeared to be disconnect often between the wideout and quarterback Jalen Hurts.
That likely explains why Brown’s yards per catch average dropped from 16.1 in 2024 to 12.9 during 2025.
The Eagles, though, could retain Brown and hope things are better in 2026. Philadelphia will have a new offensive coordinator in Sean Mannion, who pundits see as a much better fit than previous coordinator Kevin Patullo.
