The Philadelphia Eagles‘ fan base will have their minds turned to the regular season coming up in just under two weeks time, and indeed who will end up on the team when September 4th rolls around.

Two free agent signings from just this offseason, edge rusher, Azeez Ojulari and cornerback, Adoree’ Jackson , could already be on the “chopping block” according to CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr.

According to Kerr, Ojulari should in theory make the final 53-man roster, but could end up being cut if general manager, Howie Roseman, makes another trademark August trade in addition to already signing receiver John Metchie III on Monday that could push the former Giant down on the depth chart.

Ojulari had a slow start to camp, but performed well in the joint practices against the Browns over the past week.” Kerr wrote on Monday, “He even had a sack in Saturday’s preseason game.

“While Ojulari is currently the No. 4 edge rusher on the depth chart, he’s expected to be part of the edge rusher rotation in Philadelphia. It’s unlikely he gets cut, unless the Eagles trade for an edge rusher prior to the season. That could make Ojulari expendable.”

Adoree’ Jackson’s Roster Chances Could Be In Serious Jeopardy

Unlike Ojulari, whose “chopping block” chances are more speculative and dependant on other factors, Jackson could be heading for the exit irregardless of what happens next in Kerr’s eyes. Most critically, it would seem that the former first rounder has failed to win over perhaps the most important ally to have on his side – defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz.

“The CB2 battle is still going on in Philadelphia, and Jackson is the oldest cornerback in the war at 29 years old. He’s outperformed Kelee Ringo, but the Eagles did trade for Jakorian Bennett to compete for those starter reps. Bennett is starting to get looks with the first team.

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio appears not to be a fan of Jackson, making his chances to win the starting job even harder. Making just $1.5 million, Jackson could be expendable if the Eagles go with younger options (like Eli Ricks).

Will The Eagles Move Forward Without Jackson And Ojulari?

Jakorian Bennett has made an unexpected run at the CB2 spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell, and could be in line to start ahead of both Jackson and Ringo.

Despite Jackson’s superior performances to Ringo, the Eagles could still decide to go with the younger, higher upside player in Ringo, over the veteran, Jackson, who will turn 30 next month – especially if neither end up being named as the starter. The same goes for the third year Ricks and rookie nickel back Mac McWilliams.

Ojulari could be in a similar situation as OLB4 behind Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt and fellow offseason addition, Josh Uche.

The Eagles’ lack of depth at that department could prompt them to keep the former second round pick, but if they are set on keeping just four outside linebackers, the organization could decide to go with ex-seventh round pick, Patrick Johnson, who has made a surprise late push to be included in the final regular season roster.
