The Philadelphia Eagles made a significant investment in the veteran edge rusher Jonathan Greenard this offseason. So far, the veteran’s stock is down as he struggles to get on the field.
Heading into the start of training camp, Greenard was ruled out for several weeks due to a pectoral injury. At first, the coaching staff didn’t seem overly concerned. The messaging hinted that Greenard could be back sooner rather than later.
However, going into joint practices with the New England Patriots, there’s suddenly concern about Greenard’s Week 1 status against the Washington Commanders. At this point, nothing is guaranteed as the Eagles haven’t placed Greenard on an official timeline. No matter how you look at it, though, the veteran’s stock is down.

Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice made sure to point out that Greenard is one of a few players with a declining stock in training camp. However, the note offers much more simply saying the team hasn’t seen anything out of their trade pickup this offseason. It’s a brutal reality check.
“One of the things I was hoping to see from Greenard heading into camp was how well he had recovered from a 2025 shoulder injury that required surgery. But after suffering a pectoral injury while lifting ahead of training camp, Greenard may not be ready to play when the regular season begins,” Kempski wrote.

“There are now two injuries he has to prove he has overcome, and they’re both in the same neighborhood on his body. Whenever he plays he will not have had the ideal ramp up to live game action that everyone else has.”
The 29-year-old Pro Bowler had a strong run with the Minnesota Vikings before he got to the Eagles. During his first season with the Vikings in 2024, Greenard combined 59 tackles and picked up 12.0 sacks. He did that with a healthy season, playing 17 games.
In 2025, Greenard appeared in just 12 games for the Vikings. He produced 38 tackles, collecting 3.0 sacks. The veteran pass rusher notably suffered two different setbacks throughout the year. Adding a third one in under one year is certainly a concerning situation for the Eagles to be in.
What Did The Eagles Pay For Greenard?

It wasn’t just a trade-off. Back in April, the Eagles acquired Greenard and a seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick. The Eagles gave Greenard a four-year, $98 million extension upon his arrival, according to Spotrac.
Clearly, the Eagles believe in Greenard, but they were banking on him to be ready and productive right away. Since strapping on the pads, the veteran hasn’t touched the field.
