The 2027 NFL Draft is about eight months away, but it’s never too soon to start thinking about what the Philadelphia Eagles need.

Looking ahead, the Eagles may need a safety or to target the offensive line. Depending on how the team feels about rookie Markel Bell, Philly might need to use next year’s draft to find Lane Johnson’s real successor.

A lot can happen during the 2026 season, but they could find the right one now. It would have to be the result of some catastrophic happening during the year.

Philadelphia Eagles Dream Draft Scenario Might be A Nightmare

Sports Illustrated writer Gilberto Manzano shared his latest mock draft, which features a different situation for the Eagles. While it worked out well for Philly in selecting LSU offensive tackle Jordan Seaton, it would have the Eagles selecting 12th overall.

“This would be a dream scenario for the Eagles after Lane Johnson recently hinted that this will probably be his final NFL season. Seaton isn’t too far behind Goosby when ranking the tackles. The 6’5″, 307-pounder played 22 games at Colorado over the past two seasons before transferring to LSU. After shedding nearly 20 pounds, Seaton’s elite athleticism was easy to spot on the field.”

While Pro Football Focus was examining the best offensive tackles entering the 2026 season, Seaton was ranked fifth on the list.

“Seaton is the highest transfer on this list, moving to LSU following two seasons as Colorado’s starting left tackle. The former five-star recruit is arguably the best pass protector returning to college football, as his 84.8 pass-blocking grade on true pass sets in 2025 ranked third in the country and best among returning tackles.

It’s Seaton’s work in the run game that needs serious work, as his 52.0 PFF run-blocking grade was 263rd among 310 qualifying tackles in the nation. Still, his movement skills and pass-protection polish could have Seaton go in the first round of the 2027 NFL Draft.”

Eagles Could Select Great Offensive Tackle With a Horrible 2026 Result

While the SI article should focus on the offensive tackle, the more concerning part is that they picked 12th. For that to happen, something went incredibly wrong for the Eagles, as that would be their worst season since 2020.

Sure, Seaton would make for a great solution at right tackle for Johnson’s pending retirement after the season. The Eagles would get a Day 1 starter in there and hopefully not lose as much of a beat at the position.

If the Eagles have the 12th overall pick, though, the thought may not be at right tackle. Philly could look at other positions, like quarterback, to help them and potentially challenge Jalen Hurts.

Bell could very much still be the right option at right tackle, as he has looked good so far in training camp. Right tackle may not be at the top of their minds if they are in the top 15 in the draft. Eagles fans have to hope that doesn’t happen.
