Former Philadelphia Eagles RB Eric Bieniemy, who defeated Nick Sirianni in the Super Bowl, is likely going back to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Philadelphia Eagles are in the market for a new offensive coordinator. One potential candidate who played one season with the Eagles is not heading to Philadelphia for the job.

Instead, he will coach with former Eagles head coach Andy Reid again.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday “all signs are pointing towards” Eric Bieniemy becoming the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator again. Bieniemy held that role with Kansas City from 2018-22.

This past season, Bieniemy served as running backs coach for the Chicago Bears.

Bieniemy was an NFL running back for nine years from 1991-99. He played 16 games for the Eagles to end his playing career in 1999.

Bieniemy became Chiefs offensive coordinator in Patrick Mahomes’ first year as an NFL starter. He earned that role after serving as the Chiefs running backs coach for five years.

In five seasons as Kansas City’s offensive coordinator, Bieniemy helped the Chiefs go to the AFC championship game every year and win two Super Bowls. Mahomes also won two MVP awards.

After the second Super Bowl win in February 2023, Bieniemy left the Chiefs to become Washington Commanders offensive coordinator.

At the time, pundits often named Bieniemy as a head coaching candidate. But after a couple hiring cycles of not landing a head job, Bieniemy likely left to see what he could do without Reid and Mahomes.

Following one season on Ron Rivera’s staff in Washington, the Commanders fired Rivera. New Washington head coach Dan Quinn didn’t retain Bieniemy.

After one year at UCLA in 2024, Bieniemy returned to the NFL as a running backs coach with the Bears.

Bieniemy has 17 years of NFL coaching experience. He started his NFL coaching career as a running backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings in 2006.

At the college level, he’s coached for his alma mater, Colorado, and UCLA. Bieniemy had two different stints at both schools.

The then San Diego Chargers drafted Bieniemy at No. 39 overall in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He played four seasons for the Chargers and then four campaigns for the Cincinnati Bengals before landing with the Eagles.

In 142 NFL games, Bieniemy ran for 1,589 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 4.1 yards per carry.
