If you look around the NFC right now, you can see why the Philadelphia Eagles can’t afford to sit on their hands when it comes to bulking up their pass rush.
The Green Bay Packers just landed former Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons to pair with Rashan Gary, and have turned themselves into legit contenders in the process. Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s defensive line has slipped from its peak in 2022, when it set a franchise record with 70 sacks.
The Eagles also lost both Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham this offseason, and while Philly’s D-line still has talent, it no longer has the intimidation factor it once did.
That’s why a player like Travon Walker seems like it could be a potential game-changer for Philly. Let’s discuss.
Why the Philadelphia Eagles Should Try to Trade for Edge Travon Walker

Getty Jacksonville Jaguars edge Travon Walker is a rumored trade target for the Philadelphia Eagles.
At least one insider has linked the Eagles to a potential trade for Walker. Sports Illustrated’s Ed Kracz says Walker is a name “to keep an eye on” for the Eagles.
The Eagles would have to give up a first-round pick next year to make it happen, but it’s a pick that, if they do what is expected and make another deep playoff push, that pick would be closer to the second round anyway,” Kracz wrote on August 27.
The Jaguars don’t have a first-round pick next year after trading it away in the deal to land Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter in the 2025 draft. The Eagles would include Kelee Ringo and one of the three third-round picks they are expected to have next spring. A sweetener might be a fourth in 2027.”
Philadelphia’s pass rush isn’t barren, but it’s not fearsome, either. Nolan Smith has speed and Azeez Ojulari has some tools and Ogbo Okoronkwo isna decent depth piece. But none of them has put together the kind of complete season that forces offensive coordinators to tilt protection.
Walker would be a good fit in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s defense, too. He can play the run on early downs, slide inside on passing downs and still win one-on-one outside.
The cost won’t be cheap, but it’s not unrealistic. His cap hit for 2025 is just under $12 million, and if Philly likes him and he plays well, an extension would also be on the table.
A Look at Walker’s NFL Career So Far
Jacksonville made Walker the No. 1 overall pick in 2022, and he showed flashes right away. By the end of his rookie campaign, he had logged 49 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble. They weren’t eye-popping numbers, but it took him a bit to adjust to NFL speed.
By his second season, the learning curve began to tilt in his favor. Starting all 17 games, Walker finished with 10.0 sacks, 10 tackles for loss and 19 quarterback hits, turning those flashes into consistent disruption.
In 2024, he had a career year, netting 61 total tackles, 10.5 sacks, 13 TFLs and 15 quarterback hits. He capped it off with a defensive touchdown on a 35-yard fumble return. Through three seasons, he’s already sitting on 24 sacks, 44 quarterback hits and 28 tackles for loss.
Jacksonville exercised Walker’s fifth-year option this spring, locking him in through 2026 with manageable cap hits of $11.8 million in 2025 and $15.1 million the following year.
It wouldn’t be easy to pry him away, no doubt. There have been public acknowledgments from the front office about ongoing conversations toward a long-term extension. But the Jaguars are also in transition under a new coaching staff, and they may soon face the familiar question of whether to pay top dollar to keep Walker, or whether to capitalize on his peak value to build depth elsewhere.
That’s the kind of situation Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has pounced on in the past. We’ll see if history repeats itself.
