The Philadelphia Eagles added another notable name to their offensive coordinator search on Wednesday.

According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the Eagles are interviewing former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

The interview immediately sparked debate across Philadelphia, with Nagy’s deep ties to the organization colliding with skepticism stemming from his recent coaching stops.

Nagy’s connection to the Eagles dates back to 2008.

He began his NFL career as a coaching intern under Andy Reid.

He spent five seasons in Philadelphia as an offensive assistant before following Reid to Kansas City in 2013.

In KC, Nagy rose to quarterbacks coach and later offensive coordinator.

He eventually earned the Chicago Bears’ head coaching job in 2018.

He went 34-31 over four seasons in Chicago before returning to the Chiefs’ staff, where he won two Super Bowls in various offensive roles.

Garafolo reported that Nagy is “currently exploring a few OC options,” placing Philadelphia firmly in the mix for their former assistant coach.

Philly Media Pushes Back on Nagy Candidacy

Reaction from Philadelphia-based outlets was harsh and very critical.

Several articles questioned whether Matt Nagy’s résumé reflects his own independent offensive success or simply just a connection to Andy Reid’s system.

Critics pointed to Kansas City’s offensive regression during Nagy’s most recent stint as play-caller.

Many noted that the Chiefs became more conservative and less explosive with Nagy as OC.

Some local analysis went even further.

They labeled a potential Nagy hire as a step backward rather than the progressive upgrade fans were expecting.

While Nagy is respected league-wide for his experience, skepticism remains about whether he can maximize an Eagles offense that already struggled with consistency and creativity in 2025.

Eagles’ OC Search Narrows as Top Targets Exit

The timing of Nagy’s interview is notable, as several of Philadelphia’s preferred candidates have come off the board.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is expected to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff with the Chargers

Additionally, Brian Daboll remains focused on either the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching vacancy or a potential offensive coordinator role in Tennessee

Both McDaniel and Daboll, two of Philly’s initial top candidates, have both turned the Eagles down.

With McDaniel and Daboll effectively off the board, the Eagles’ offensive coordinator search has shifted toward a broader group of candidates.

Alongside Matt Nagy, Philadelphia has already interviewed or is expected to consider Zac Robinson, Josh Grizzard, Mike Kafka, Jim Bob Cooter, and Bobby Slowik.

This is according to other NFL Insider reports.

Rising Rams assistant Nathan Scheelhaase and former Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury have also surfaced as potential options.

After Kevin Patullo’s firing, this OC decision is crucial for the future direction of the franchise.

For now, whether Philly fans and media like it or not, Matt Nagy is now a legitimate option.
