Veteran cornerback Nazeeh Johnson left his visit with the Philadelphia Eagles at the beginning of May without a contract. But if the Eagles are still considering signing the defensive back, they may have new competition.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Johnson visited the New York Giants.
“On an NFC East tour, Nazeeh Johnson is visiting the Giants today,” wrote Rapoport on X.
Johnson spent the past four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. As a rookie, he appeared in 11 games for the Super Bowl champions during 2022. He had eight combined tackles while only playing on special teams.
In 2025, the defensive back appeared in two contests for the Chiefs. He registered two combined tackles.
Cornerback Nazeeh Johnson Visits Giants: Report
Johnson may end up in the NFC East one way or another. The two most recent teams he has visited in NFL free agency were the Eagles and Giants.
One day after his Giants visit, though, Johnson remains a free agent. He saw the Eagles on May 4.
The Chiefs drafted Johnson at No. 259 overall in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
During 2024, Johnson played 498 defensive snaps for the Chiefs. That nearly accounted for half of the team’s snaps on defense that season.
But for the most part, Johnson was a special teams player and was considered that coming out of college. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, though, did call the defensive back explosive in his draft evaluation.
“Undersized but explosive, Johnson is a three-year starter with plus athletic ability who appears to be missing the physical elements needed to stay at safety as a pro,” wrote Zierlein. “He loses battles to tight ends working underneath or down the seam and is a below-average stopper as a tackler in space.
“Johnson might be suited for a permanent move to nickel corner, where his pattern matching and twitch could be shaped and improved with more coaching. He needs a more aggressive approach when playing the football if he’s going to make a team.”
Eagles Secondary Depth Entering Offseason Workouts
The Eagles already addressed their secondary multiple times in free agency this offseason. Their biggest addition was Super Bowl champion cornerback Riq Woolen.
Philadelphia also signed nickel cornerback Jonathan Jones and safety J.T. Gray.
During the 2026 NFL Draft, the Eagles selected safety Cole Wisniewski from Texas Tech in the seventh round. To round out the group, Philadelphia also signed two undrafted defensive backs.
That gives the Eagles a pretty full depth chart at cornerback and defensive back. Johnson could add depth, especially on special teams. But the Eagles might be inclined to see what they already have through offseason workouts at this point.
Typically, if free agents aren’t signed to contracts within a week or so of their visit to a team, that team has moved on. That’s not always true but is generally the case.
The Eagles will have their next organized offseason workout on May 26. They have six sessions remaining from May 26-June 4 before mandatory minicamp.
The team’s mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 9-10.
