Former Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles assistant Press Taylor will get his second chance to be an NFL offensive coordinator next season.
The Chicago Bears announced Wednesday it named Taylor its new offensive coordinator. Taylor will replace Declan Doyle, who departed Chicago to become the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator.
Last season, Taylor served as the passing game coordinator for the Bears. He previously was the Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator from 2022-24.
“Taylor enters his second season with Chicago after joining the Bears in 2025 as Pass Game Coordinator,” Chicagobears.com wrote. “Last season, Taylor helped lead a passing attack that featured QB Caleb Williams setting a franchise single-season record with 3,942 passing yards in the regular season, adding a 361-yard passing performance in the NFC Wild Card Round win over Green Bay, a single-game club record in the postseason.
“The Bears culminated the regular season with 441 points scored, third-most in a single season in franchise history.”
Taylor coached under both Chip Kelly and Doug Pederson with the Eagles. From 2013-15, he served as an offensive quality control coach in Philadelphia.
He became assistant quarterbacks coach on Pederson’s first staff in 2016. Taylor held that role when the Eagles won the Super Bowl during the 2017 season.
Ex-Eagles Assistant Press Taylor Lands Bears OC Job
Taylor began his NFL career coaching under Kelly. But since the Eagles fired Kelly, the young offensive mind has experienced tenures under several successful offensive coaches.
That will continue for a second season under Bears head coach Ben Johnson.
Taylor became quarterbacks coach for the Eagles after Philadelphia won the Super Bowl during the 2017 season. He remained in that role until the team fired Pederson after 2020.
In 2021, Taylor joined former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich with the Indianapolis Colts. Under Reich, Taylor was a senior offensive assistant for the Colts in 2021.
The following season, the offensive assistant joined Pederson with the Jaguars in his first offensive coordinator role.
Ben Johnson is the Offensive Play-Caller for the Bears
While Taylor moving to Bears offensive coordinator is definitely a promotion, he will not call plays for the offense.
The Chicago offensive play-caller role belongs to Johnson. Along with Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan, Johnson is considered one of the best offensive play-callers in the league.
Part of why Doyle left the Bears for the same role in Baltimore was likely over the play-calling duties. Doyle will call offensive plays for the Ravens next season.
Taylor sometimes called plays while he was Jaguars offensive coordinator. In 2022, Taylor shared the duties with Pederson. The head coach called the plays in the first half while Taylor had the play-calling in the second half of games.
The OC became the full-time Jaguars play-caller in 2023.
Taylor played quarterback in college for Butler (KS) and Marshall from 2007-10. He then started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Tulsa in 2011.
Taylor began his NFL journey two years later with the Eagles.
The Bears new OC is the younger brother of Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. As Bengals head coach, Taylor has posted a 52-63-1 record since 2019.
