The Philadelphia Eagles are set at the quarterback position with Jalen Hurts as their starter and Andy Dalton as the new primary backup. That has left Tanner McKee as a potential trade candidate with the 2026 NFL Draft approaching.

McKee has shown flashes of big-time potential. When he has played, he has performed well.

In the six games he has played throughout his first two NFL seasons, McKee has completed 61.4 percent of his pass attempts for 597 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. Those numbers could be enough to intrigue a team that needs quarterback help.

With that being said, the Eagles have been linked to a potential McKee trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Eagles-Steelers Linked as Potential Tanner McKee Trade Partners

Austen Bundy of FanSided has suggested a potential trade between the two Pennsylvania teams that would ship McKee to the Steelers in exchange for the No. 76 overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

At the end of the day, Philadelphia doesn’t have to trade McKee. However, if the Eagles get offered a third-round pick, they should jump at the opportunity.

Hurts should be the team’s long-term starter. Dalton is a quality backup who would be able to step in and play at a high level if his numbers is called.

Moving on from McKee would be a bittersweet move, but a third-round pick would be worth it.

The Steelers Are the Perfect Trade Partner for Philadelphia

To this point in the NFL offseason, Pittsburgh still hasn’t figure out its quarterback situation. Will Howard and Mason Rudolph are the only two options on the Steelers’ roster currently.

Aaron Rodgers could end up returning in free agency. He played well in his first season with Pittsburgh, but is contemplating the idea of retirement this offseason.

Even if Rodgers returns, acquiring a young 25-year-old quarterback with talent like McKee would likely be of interest. Having two young signal callers in McKee and Howard would give the Steelers options after the 2026 season when Rodgers would be much more likely to retire.

Whether or not the two teams will even think about discussing a McKee trade remains to be seen. It’s just an idea, but it’s one that would make a lot of sense for all parties involved.

Expect to continue hearing rumors about McKee’s future. Following the trade for Dalton, the Eagles have a lot of options on the table they could choose from with the young quarterback.
