For two practice sessions this week, the Philadelphia Eagles faced off against Drake Maye and the New England Patriots.
The Patriots quarterback reportedly had a sharp showing. Apparently, it was strong enough for the Patriots to consider keeping him out of Saturday’s game action.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Maye is “unlikely” to play against the Eagles for their second preseason game of the summer on August 22.
In addition to Maye, Reiss adds that “most starters” are in the same position after extensive work in multiple joint practices. That could mean that the Eagles might not see their former wide receiver, AJ Brown, on the field as well.
Drake Maye Is Proven

Although the 23-year-old is heading into year three, Maye has shown plenty throughout the first two years of his career.
Last season, Maye put together what many considered to be an MVP-caliber showing. He was voted Second Team All-Pro after throwing for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Every NFL team takes a different approach with their quarterbacks. The Patriots are seemingly taking the cautious approach with Maye. When the Patriots took on the Indianapolis Colts last week, Maye was ruled out.
Barring an unexpected change of plans, that will remain the case on Saturday. When Maye was ruled inactive in Week 1 of the preseason, the Patriots started with Tommy DeVito, a former NFC East rival for the Eagles.
The Eagles and the Patriots are slated to kick off at 7 pM ET on Saturday.
