The Pittsburgh Steelers have added two more players to their offseason roster — defensive back Doneiko Slaughter and offensive lineman Lorenzo Thompson.
The Steelers announced Tuesday they signed both players to reserve/future contracts. With those two additions, the team has signed 19 total players on reserve/future deals.
In 2026, Thompson will be entering his third NFL season. He began his career as a Cleveland Browns undrafted free agent in 2024.
Thompson spent his rookie season on the Cleveland practice squad. He hasn’t been on a roster since the Browns waived him at the end of the 2025 preseason.
Slaughter started 13 games at Arkansas during his last college season in 2024. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars following the 2025 NFL Draft.
Neither Slaughter nor Thompson has played in an NFL regular season game.
Steelers Sign Doneiko Slaughter, Lorenzo Thompson to Future Deals
With their latest offseason signings, general manager Omar Khan has added depth to the Pittsburgh offensive line and defensive backfield.
Slaughter spent his entire five-year college career in the SEC. First, he played at Tennessee from 2020-24.
In 43 games with the Volunteers, Slaughter registered 87 combined tackles, including 5.5 for loss. He also had seven pass defenses, three sacks and one interception.
With Arkansas, Slaughter posted 80 combined tackles, including 3 for loss, six pass defenses, one sack and one interception in 13 contests.
Thompson played college football at Rhode Island. During his final season, Thompson served as a team captain.
He also started his final 37 college games.
Omar Khan Has Signed 19 Players to Future/Reserve Deals
The addition of Slaughter and Thompson came a day after the Steelers inked offensive lineman Sataoa Laumea to a reserve deal as well.
The Seattle Seahawks drafted Laumea at No. 179 overall in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He appeared in six games during his rookie season.
Laumea joined the New Orleans Saints practice squad in September but only remained with the team for about three weeks.
The Steelers began building their offseason roster with the signing of 13 players to future contracts on January 14.
The list of 13 players included quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, long snapper Cal Adomitis, defensive tackle Kyler Baugh, wide receiver Cole Burgess, defensive end Anthony Goodlow, defensive back Daequan Hardy, defensive back Jack Henderson, defensive end K.J. Henry, wide receiver Max Hurleman, offensive guard Steven Jones, running back Lew Nichols, linebacker Julius Welschof and offensive tackle Aiden Williams.
Then on January 15, the Steelers signed offensive lineman Doug Nester and wide receiver Brandon Smith.
On January 17, the Steelers brought back defensive back D’Shawn Jamison on a futures contract.
With their latest additions, the Steelers have signed four offensive linemen to reserve deals, including Thompson. In the secondary, Slaughter was the fourth defensive back added on a futures contract.
The overall direction of the Steelers roster is unclear. That’s because the team is currently without a head coach. Mike Tomlin resigned after 19 years as Pittsburgh’s head coach on January 13.
The Steelers began signing players to futures deals the following day.
But when the franchise’s next head coach is installed, the team will already have an offseason roster loaded with new players.
