The Pittsburgh Steelers have a clean bill of health in their secondary entering the NFL wild card matchup against the Houston Texans. But if the Steelers need secondary depth again this month, one of their former safeties, Jack Henderson, just became available.
The Miami Dolphins released Henderson, along with three other players, from their practice squad Friday. Henderson spent about six weeks with the Steelers during the middle of the 2025 regular season.
The defensive back signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers last year. He began the regular season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad after the Panthers released him at the end of the 2025 preseason.
Before the 2025 NFL Draft, SB Nation’s The Daily Gopher’s Andy York hyped Henderson for his potential.
“Henderson had flashes of greatness in his two years for the Gophers and definitely has the motor to try and earn a NFL roster spot,” York wrote. “Henderson’s 39.5-inch vertical and 10-8 broad jump helped him post an elite composite explosion grade. He has the football smart as well.
“His 6’2 208 lb frame is slightly undersized for an NFL strong safety, but his hybrid ability makes him an intriguing add to a NFL camp’s roster.”
