Quarterback Russell Wilson was rather insistent during his first week of the NFL offseason that he doesn’t plan to retire. That appears to remain the case, as the former Pittsburgh Steelers signal-caller continues to express a lot of positivity on social media.
In an Instagram video post on Tuesday, Wilson didn’t address his NFL plans one way or another. But he displayed a familiar tone of “gratitude and encouragement,” which seemingly continues to suggest the quarterback aims to continue his football playing days.
“Man, I have so many amazing, amazing fans. I look up to you guys,” Wilson said in the video. “All the amazing Cameos that you guys have been asking for. All the shoutouts, birthdays, anniversaries, the inspirational stories, the motivation, I love it.
“You guys are inspiration to me. I’m grateful for you guys. All the three brand video requests and shoutouts too, man. You guys are awesome. This is for the kids. This is for everybody. Anybody who needs a little love, a little inspiration.
“Keep shooting me Cameos. I’ll send them your way. I hope you guys keep believing every day, you get up, believe in you, believe that today is going to be your best day. Keep that spirit. Keep that life.”
Wilson sent his message ahead of another offseason of uncertainty. The veteran quarterback will be a free agent for the third year in a row.
Ex-Steelers QB Russell Wilson Remaining Positive
Not that Wilson isn’t sincere with his latest message to fans. But the quarterback could have another motive with his latest social media post.
The video allows Wilson to stay in the public eye ahead of NFL free agency.
In all likelihood, Wilson will once again be searching for a new team. If he lands in a new spot, it will be his fourth organization in four years and fifth since the start of 2021.
Wilson appeared to find a nice home with Mike Tomlin and the Steelers during the early part of 2024. Tomlin benched fellow quarterback Justin Fields, who went 4-2 as a starter, in favor of Wilson, who was returning from injury. Wilson then promptly led the Steelers to a 6-1 start.
But Wilson then lost his final five games in Pittsburgh, including the playoffs. The Steelers elected to wait for veteran Aaron Rodgers to make a decision last offseason rather than bring back Wilson for a second year.
Wilson is searching for a new opportunity this offseason having lost eight consecutive starts. He posted an 0-3 record with the New York Giants before getting benched in September.
Wilson completed 58% of his passes and averaged 7 yards per attempt in six appearances during 2025. He also had three touchdowns and three interceptions.
