The San Francisco 49ers wouldn’t have won Monday’s Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders without star wide receiver Mike Evans.
The six-time Pro Bowler caught three passes for 94 yards and was quarterback Brock Purdy’s clear go-to target when the offense needed a big play.
But Evans left Monday’s 23-17 win with 1:10 left in the second quarter after suffering an apparent Achilles injury. It’s the fourth time in six games Evans has exited a game due to injury.
Many feared Evans tore his Achilles. Several notable sports doctors even speculated the 49ers should hold him out for the rest of the game so he didn’t do any further damage to his Achilles.
While nothing is definitive regarding Evans’ injury situation, 49ers insider Jennifer Lee Chan revealed some news on Evans’ injury prognosis that’s both good and bad news for 49ers fans.
Latest Update on 49ers WR Mike Evans’ Achilles Injury

Moments after Monday’s game ended, Chan took to X to reveal the latest news she’s hearing regarding the severity of Evans’ injury status.
“Hearing #49ers WR Mike Evans’ Achilles is in tact but he will miss a little time. Potentially after the bye week if all things stay according to plan,” Chan posted on X.
The 49ers travel to Atlanta to play the Falcons next weekend and get their bye the week after.
Evans not rupturing his Achilles is certainly good news. However, the fact that he’s even dealing with Achilles soreness is a red flag given how easily it can tear. The NFL has seen a shocking number of Achilles injuries over the last three seasons.
Not having Evans, who entered Monday’s game leading the 49ers in receptions (24) and yards (326), and he’s second to tight end George Kittle in touchdowns (3), for next week’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons is a blow the 49ers can’t afford right now.
49ers Need to Make a Move for Another WR
The team’s WR corps is as beat up as bare bones as it gets. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season after having PCL surgery, De’Zhaun Stribling is out for at least four more weeks (probably longer) with a torn deltoid, Demarcus Robinson is out long-term with a high-ankle sprain, and Deebo Samuel is expected to miss a few more weeks with a hamstring injury.
As things sit right now, Brandin Cooks, Jordan Watkins, Jacob Cowing, and Malik Turner are the only healthy receivers on the roster. San Francisco is expected to get former 1,000-yard wideout Christian Kirk back next week, which will help, but the team clearly needs to make a move for another proven pass-catcher.
San Francisco has been linked to several high-profile wide receiver trades over the last few weeks including Jacksonville’s Brian Thomas Jr. and Cleveland’s Jerry Jeudy.
