The San Francisco 49ers fell 41-6 to the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round on Jan. 17 at Lumen Field. Moreover, this is the final chapter in the Niners’ 2025 NFL season, which featured so many injuries that it eventually caught up to the team.

San Francisco gave up an opening kickoff return touchdown by Rashid Shaheed, which was a bad omen to show the Niners that it wouldn’t be their night in Seattle. By the end of the first quarter, it would be 17-0, and the Seahawks would run away with the game.

While Fred Warner didn’t play in this contest, there was hope that he would return for a potential NFC title game. Nonetheless, he will now have the entire offseason to recover, but he did speak to the media afterward.

“I do not plan on retiring anytime soon,” Warner said after the 49ers fell to the Seahawks. “That was about as close as the feeling you’re going to get of being away from the game. It was fun to see the guys fight, and a lot of young players stepping up into different roles.

“I’m sure they weren’t expected to play this early in as meaningful minutes as they did. I think it was super beneficial for a lot of the guys to have played and played well for us this year to go into next year on a great foot.”

The 49ers’ defense will look vastly different with Warner and Nick Bosa returning. However, it will be interesting to see if the Niners make any major additions to generate more of a pass rush.

Kyle Shanahan Gets Honest About 49ers’ Loss to Seahawks

After the loss, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with the media and gave a blunt response on seeing his team get blown out.

“I thought no one played perfect,” Shanahan said postgame. “No one played great today. No one coached great today. They got us pretty good. But I thought Brock made a number of plays out there. But on the second half, I got away from all of us.”

Moreover, Shanahan shared what he told his team once they reached the locker room. After overcoming so many injuries to key players, this is as far as the Niners could go, but it doesn’t diminish the fact that they fought through adversity to reach the playoffs.

“We obviously were real disappointed with [the game],” Shanahan added. “We obviously didn’t have it today. Credit to them. Try not to harp on that. I try to know what we can discuss some of that stuff on Monday when we get back together. But I just thanked them for the whole season, how much they battled through everything.

“I know everyone in there was sick about tonight and the way that went in every facet. But I tried not to make about tonight when I was in there with them—just thanked them for what they’ve done all year. I’ve been extremely proud of everyone in that room throughout this year.”

The Niners ended the night with 128 passing yards and 108 rushing yards, and those numbers weren’t going to cut it to edge out a Seahawks defense that’s playing at a top level.
