A key player for the Chicago Bears received bad news before the team’s Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers. On December 27, the NFL released its Gameday Accountability report, which included the Bears’ Austin Booker, who received two fines from the league.

As part of the fine process, players are informed of any violations and have the right to challenge the ruling.

Moreover, appeals are reviewed by officers and former NFL players Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, who are jointly selected and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA. Afterward, their decisions are final and must be accepted.

Regarding Booker, the first fine he received was for a play in the first quarter at the 13:20-minute mark for a hit on the quarterback; specifically, it was due to Booker applying his body weight. As a result of this play, the NFL is fining him $5,818.

Booker’s actions that led to his second fine occurred on a play in the second quarter at the 8:21-minute mark, following another hit on the quarterback, but this time it was for a blow to the head and neck. As a result of this action, the league is fining him $5,818.

The Bears’ standout isn’t afraid to take a shot at the quarterback, so it will be something that the 49ers will need to worry about with Brock Purdy under center.

Bears Have Respect for 49ers’ Defense

Speaking of defense, ahead of the Week 17 game and what could be a playoff matchup, Bears head coach Ben Johnson spoke about facing a defense led by defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

“It starts with play style with them,” Johnson told reporters on December 26. “It’s been that way ever since he’s been coaching. I think I went against the Jets one time when he was there. It’s a trademark of that defense. It’s a trademark of San Francisco’s defense. Now, these guys go all out every single snap. They try to get as many defenders in the frame at the end of the play that you possibly can.

“I think that that right there when you know it’s a play style like that, that’s a challenge in and of itself because they can they could potentially out-effort you if you allow them to do that. That’s a huge point of emphasis for us here this week. I think the front is a unique front where there’s a number of teams that do it.”

49ers’ Defense Ready for Caleb Williams Challenge

As for the 49ers’ defense, they will be looking to stop Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. Moreover, the Niners’ head coach, Kyle Shanahan, shared his thoughts on facing the young signal-caller, who is coming in with confidence after their comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 16.

“Caleb is one of the best throwers, one of the best athletic quarterbacks I’ve ever seen in terms of his height, weight, and speed,” Shanahan told reporters (h/t 95.7 The Game). “He makes some big-time throws, extremely scary on the perimeter. Can hold onto the ball for a while, not in a bad way, but by creating stuff, which makes coverages have to hold out forever.

“When you have a talented guy like that who’s got the speed and the size, run game, get some bootlegs and play actions off of it. You limit how many times you [get] to drop back. It makes sense why he’s playing such a high level.”
