Skyy Moore is getting a fresh start as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
The Niners wideout, who the organization acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs last week, expressed his excitement to get “a fresh start” as a member of the team he helped defeat in Super Bowl LVIII last year.
The injury-riddled 49ers acquired Moore last week for a 2027 sixth-round pick. The 2022 second-round pick of the Chiefs (No. 54) had 43 catches for 494 receiving yards and 47 rushing yards on six attempts in three seasons in Kansas City.
What Did Skyy Moore Say About Being On The 49ers?
Moore had just three targets and played in only six games with the Chiefs in 2024, which prompted his trade to San Francisco.
But even though he had just come to the Niners on Thursday, Moore was noticeable by hauling in three catches for 19 yards in their preseason-closing 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at Levi’s Stadium on Saturday.
“It wasn’t the smoothest, but it wasn’t that bad,” Moore said of his transition from KC to San Francisco. “I was able to pick up a little bit; I was also confused out there a little bit, but it was pretty good.”
Moore’s comments were more about his struggles in Kansas City, where he did not catch a pass a season ago. Despite his two Super Bowl rings, Moore clearly never fit into Kansas City’s offense.
So even though his comments could end up being used against him if he struggles in San Francisco, it was refreshing to hear Moore open up about his struggles in Kansas City.
“I feel like I definitely needed a fresh start,” Moore said. “I found myself in my head a lot over in Kansas City, and that’s never good. I feel like today, it was just like let it loose and just go out and play because I don’t know anything anyway, I got to just play ball.”
So even though he worked mainly with third-string QB Tanner Mordecai, and he only had one practice before playing in a game-like setting, Moore admitted his performance Saturday was about finding the fun he had lost in football.
“Yeah, that’s exactly what it is. It’s a fresh start,” Moore said. “New city, new team. I feel like I get to learn again and put the fun back in the game. Not that I lost it, but just another adventure, I’d say.
“The guys, what I’ve seen so far, they accepted me. And all the veteran guys and all the coaches helped me make that transition as smooth as possible.”
Will Skyy Moore Play For The 49ers?
Suffice it to say that if the 49ers parted with even a low-end draft pick next year, he will be on the 2026 active roster.
Moore will no doubt end up being one of the five or six 49ers on their roster before the Tuesday cutdown deadline, especially with his ability to run jet sweeps, which Niners coach Kyle Shanahan loves to do.
But even though Moore can do that in Shanahan’s offense, and he also ran the ball under Chiefs coach Andy Reid, the fourth-year wideout admitted the offenses aren’t all that similar.
“It is in a lot of ways, and in a lot of ways it’s not,” Moore when asked if the offenses are similar. “I’m just going to continue to pound the details of Kyle’s offense and just keep building on today.”
