The Seattle Seahawks just had their Cinderella moment on the field in Super Bowl LX, where the team convincingly took down the New England Patriots on Sunday, February 8, with a 29-13 final score. But, with success comes change, and in some disappointing news, one of their key coaches has already announced that he’s leaving Seattle for another NFL team.
“I don’t know if there’s a right or wrong way, but we’re going to have a lot of fun tonight,” Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said during his postgame press conference about how the team was going to celebrate.
“I’m so happy,” cornerback Devon Witherspoon, one of the key defensive players in Sunday’s win, said on the field. “It’s hard to find the words right now, but, man, I love this team, bro. I love the group of guys that we have here, I love what we’ve established around here. I just can’t celebrate with my guys.”
Now, let’s get into the coach that will immediately be leaving the Seattle Seahawks following this victory.
Seattle Seahawks Coach Announces He’s Leaving
After helping to lead the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory, offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is officially leaving and taking a head coaching job with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Before the game, Kubiak didn’t comment on the possibility of leading the Raiders next season, but after the win, he was very candid and open about it. Speaking on the field to the NFL Network’s Stacey Dales after the game, he said that he’s going to Vegas.
“You guys know I’m going to Las Vegas, so I’m fired up about it,” Kubiak said. Dales followed up and asked if he was going to be head coach for the Raiders. “Hell yeah, of course I’m going,” he said.
“I’m really happy for Klint. Without him, we wouldn’t be here,” Macdonald said on NFL GameDay Final. “Happy for Klint, he’s a world champ, and we’ll see what happens in the next couple days.”
Kenneth Walker III Gets Honored
Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III was awarded the coveted MVP award for being the most valuable player in the Super Bowl.
The Seattle Seahawks drafted Walker III in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft as the 41st overall pick on April 29, 2022, according to NFL research, out of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, the home of the Spartans. He’s proved one of the team’s best draft picks, and when Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald took over in 2024, he immediately know how to work with Walker III to bring the best out of him.
Right after winning the Super Bowl, Walker was interviewed on the field about the experience. He was asked to sum up what it meant to him to win a Super Bowl. “It’s a dream come true,” he said on the broadcast, adding that he’s blessed.
Walker finished the game with 135 rushing yards on 27 carries, adding 26 receiving yards on two catches. He also made history, becoming the first running back to win Super Bowl MVP since Denver’s Terrell Davis in Super Bowl XXXII after the 1997 season, according to NFL research.
