Outside of their last two games against the Los Angeles Rams, the Seattle Seahawks‘ defense has been a dominant unit. Since Nov. 30, 2024, only LA have been able to record 20 or more points on the Seattle defense.
As a result, New England Patriots QB Drake Maye and the rest of the offense will have a tall task, one that other teams have failed at outside the Rams. Nonetheless, former Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander is sending a warning to his former team about Maye, who has a sneaky element to his game.
“It is wild having, as I would call [Maye], my nephew, play so well this year,” Alexander said of the Patriots QB during a Jan. 27 appearance on “Up & Adams.” “So proud of him to know… One of the things we said in this AFC Championship is, go be you and go win the game. It’s crazy.
“If the buzz is not that, use your legs. You’re way better of an athlete than everybody’s going to ever give you credit for. And what’s he doing? He goes and gets it done. Super proud of him, super excited for him. I know we’ve got the No. 1 defense in Seattle, so I want him to somehow have a good game.”
Can the Seattle Defense Keep Drake Maye Quiet?
Nonetheless, while Alexander warns the Seahawks defense that Maye is a more mobile QB than many give him credit for, he still hopes that unit makes life challenging for the Patriots star.
“I think the Seahawks defense is going to be very effective,“ Alexander added. “And I hope Drake and them get many, many more times at this thing, just not against the Seahawks. But I think he’s going to play well. But he’s that dude. I’m very proud of him.”
Richard Sherman Talks Seahawks In the Super Bowl
Meanwhile, another former Seahawks player that’s happy to see Seattle back in the Super Bowl is Richard Sherman. Sherman didn’t hold back on seeing the Seahawks back in the Super Bowl and against the Patriots.
Moreover, he focused on QB Sam Darnold and the Seahawks’ defense, which didn’t have its best night but made stops when it needed to against the Los Angeles Rams. First, Sherman focused on Darnold’s performance for silencing his naysayers who didn’t believe he would reach the Super Bowl.
“Sam Darnold could not have played a better game,“ Sherman said in a Jan. 26 video from “The Richard Sherman Podcast.” “You talk about beating the allegations. Sam Darnold can’t play against the Rams; Sam Darnold can’t play in the playoffs.
“Sam Darnold can’t play in the clutch [and] Sam Darnold is on his way to the Super Bowl. [Darnold went] 25 [of] 36, 346 yards, three touchdowns. Guess how many interceptions? Zero. Zilch.”
Sherman then turned his attention to the Seahawks’ defense and pointed out one major stat he believes tilted the game in Seattle’s favor.
“On the flip side, that defense, the dark side, was the perfect game for him, but they made stops when it mattered, “ Sherman added. “They made the stops in critical third down stops. They held the Rams to 1-for-8 on third down, which really had a huge factor in determining the outcome of this ball game.”
