Head coach Mike Macdonald and the Seattle Seahawks will have to replace four key members of their 2025 Super Bowl roster. But due to those departures, the Seahawks are on track to get extra draft capital next year.
Over the Cap provided a compensatory picks projection update this week. According to the latest, the Seahawks will receive four compensatory selections in the 2027 NFL Draft.
One of those picks will be a fourth-rounder. Over the Cap projected the other three to be in the fifth round.
The Seahawks are set to receive the fourth rounder due to Boye Mafe’s exit. The edge rusher signed a 3-year, $60 million deal with the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency.
Based on the current projections, the contracts Kenneth Walker, Coby Bryant and Riq Woolen signed with other teams will each result in a fifth-round pick for Seattle.
The Seahawks haven’t signed any free agents to count against them in the NFL compensatory pick formula.
Four compensatory selections is the most any one team can receive in one draft class.
Seahawks Projected to Get Four 2027 Compensatory Draft Picks
The NFL’s compensatory pick formula considers free agents salary, playing time and postseason honors. With that in mind, the Seahawks had an opportunity this offseason to maximize the formula to their advantage.
It doesn’t appear Seattle will land a third-round compensatory selection. That’s the earliest a compensatory pick can be in the draft.
But the Seahawks are set to maximize the quality aspect of the formula.
This will offer Seattle a chance to add building blocks back onto their roster next spring. In the 2026 draft, though, the Seahawks didn’t earn any compensatory picks.
The Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers maximized the formula, each landing four compensatory selections for 2026.
How Mike Macdonald Replaces Departed Free Agents
It’s great news the Seahawks will have more draft capital for 2027. But for the team’s title defense, the Seahawks must find a different way to replace their free agents.
To avoid cancelling out any of their 2027 compensatory picks, the Seahawks will have to replace them with internal options and minor signings.
The Seahawks re-signed cornerback Josh Jobe and added free agent defensive back Noah Igbinoghene this offseason. They also signed veteran running back Emanuel Wilson.
General manager John Schneider suggested to the media Thursday he is confident he will be able to boost the backfield with another addition this offseason.
“That’s a position that you can find guys,” Schneider said, via Seattle Sports’ Cameron Van Til. “Obviously, [Walker was] outstanding, and everybody’s really excited for him. I mean, that’s a great, great contract for a running back.
“But George [Holani] did a great job. We’re really excited about Emmanuel Wilson, who we got from Green Bay, a heavy runner with really nice feet.”
The Seahawks pass rush was one of the most balanced in the league last season, with four players getting 6-7 sacks each. Seattle will likely hope its collection of edge rushers will be able to overcome Mafe’s departure.
Last season, Mafe had two sacks with four tackles for loss.
While the Seahawks lost a few key players in free agency, they also kept others. In addition to Jobe, wide receiver Rashid Shaheed will return in 2026.
