Akers was part of the Rams’ Super Bowl run during the 2021 season, experience that cannot hurt as the Seahawks look towards the postseason. Most recently, Akers played the last two seasons for the Vikings. It just so happens that Seattle signed Akers days before the team is slated to play Minnesota. The Vikings released Akers on November 22, just days before finding a new home with the Seahawks.
Following a standout college football career at Florida State, the Rams selected Akers in the second round with the No. 52 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Akers’ best season came in 2022 when the playmaker posted 188 carries for 786 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 appearances for the Rams, including nine starts.
The Seahawks Made Several Roster Moves Ahead of the Vikings Game
Seattle made several roster moves to make room for Diggs and Akers. The Seahawks cut ties with cornerback Derion Kendrick and tackle Logan Brown.
Additionally, Seattle promoted cornerback Shaquill Griffin and linebacker Patrick O’Connell to the active roster from the practice squad. The Seahawks placed linebacker Chazz Surratt on injured reserve after the defender sustained an ankle injury versus the Tennessee Titans.
Vikings vs. Seahawks: Seattle Is an 11.5-Point Favorite Against Minnesota
It will be interesting to see how the Seahawks utilize Akers as part of the team’s current rotation of Ken Walker and Zach Charbonnet. Akers may not have to wait long as the running back could face his former team in Week 13.
For the second straight week, the Seahawks are double-digit favorites. Seattle is an 11.5-point home favorites versus Minnesota, per DraftKings. The Seahawks’ last game against the Titans was not technically a home game, but the team took notice of the massive amount of 12s in Nashville.
“That was one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen, them traveling from all over,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald told Seattle Sports during a November 24, interview. “… I must have had multiple people tell me that people are coming from Arizona and the plane was filled with 12s.
“That’s crazy, right? (Seahawks general manager) John (Schneider) was saying that his plane – they came down early to scout – their whole plane was filled with 12s and they’re (chanting) ‘Sea-hawks’ on the plane on the way to Nashville. I’ve never heard anything like that before, and they were incredible yesterday, just came out in waves.”
