Rashid Shaheed quickly became a key playmaker for the Seattle Seahawks after they acquired him from the New Orleans Saints in a midseason trade, a move that has helped push Seattle to the brink of winning the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks sent a 2026 fourth‑ and fifth‑round pick to the Saints to land him, and his speed and big‑play ability have paid dividends in crucial moments this season. Despite that impact, Shaheed will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and could explore the open market in mid‑March unless Seattle works out an extension.

Moreover, the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Adam Hill floated the idea with the Las Vegas Raiders reportedly making Klint Kubiak their next head coach, he could look to bring Shaheed to the Silver and Black.

“In addition to watching Klint Kubiak call plays on Sunday, Raiders fans should probably pay very close attention to Rashid Shaheed, who Kubiak loves and is about to hit free agency,” Hill wrote on X on Feb. 1.

Seahawks’ Rashid Shaheed Deserves to Get Paid

On Jan. 22, NFL analyst Marc Ross noted 11 free agents who are deserving of a payday, including Shaheed.

“I loved the midseason trade that sent Shaheed to Seattle, and it’s obvious why,” Ross wrote. “Shaheed was effective in his first three-plus years in New Orleans, but the move put a bigger spotlight on how much of an impact he can make as an electric player with the ball in his hands.

“For those of you who didn’t see last Saturday’s Divisional Round blowout of San Francisco, Shaheed is Percy Harvin-esque with the goods to alter a game as a returner, as evidenced by his 95-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff. Shaheed is lightning in a bottle with the talent to elevate a lot of offenses.”

Rashid Shaheed Has Connection With Klint Kubiak

The question will be whether the Seahawks want to pay Shaheed this offseason or whether another team could entice him with a bigger role, along with a special-teams role.

Shaheed has had 15 catches for 188 yards and has scored two touchdowns in nine regular-season games for the Seahawks this season, per StatMuse. Moreover, the Seattle standout has recorded 880 all-purpose yards since joining the team midseason, per Pro Football Reference.

One reason Shaheed hit the ground running after moving from the Saints to the Seahawks is that he has reunited with Kubiak in Seattle, who was his offensive coordinator in New Orleans. Shaheed spoke about what his reunion has been like as he’s become an impact player for his new team.

“We felt like we haven’t missed a beat at all,” Shaheed said about Kubiak during his Dec. 23 appearance on Up & Adams. “It took a little bit just to get the offense back into my brain and learning the system again. But yeah, ever since the first couple of weeks, I feel like it’s been a smooth transition with him. It’s been fun.”

Nonetheless, Shaheed made his feelings clear about staying in the Pacific Northwest long-term.

“I for sure do,” Shaheed added. “I feel like they brought me here for a reason, and that’s to be here for a minute. That’s the goal.”
