Teddy Bridgewater believes the Buccaneers' leadership is a big reason they are 3-0

It hasn’t always been pretty, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have found a way to start the 2025 season with a 3-0 record, as they have clawed their way to last-second victories over the Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, and New York Jets. Despite being without several players due to a slew of injuries, the Bucs have pushed forward, and backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater believes he knows what the key to Tampa Bay’s success is.

While Bridgewater hasn’t directly made an impact for the Buccaneers from a playing perspective this season, he’s been a great sounding board in the quarterback room for Baker Mayfield, who has been fantastic through three games. In fact, if you ask Bridgewater, he believes it may just be that leadership component that has made Tampa so dangerous early in the new season.

Teddy Bridgewater Gushes Over Buccaneers’ Leadership

Bridgewater has been in the NFL since 2014, spending time with seven different teams throughout the course of his career. During that time, he’s seen quite a bit, as he’s been part of teams that won and some that have lost. With the Buccaneers, there’s one key thing that sticks out to Bridgewater, and that’s the leadership within the organization from top to bottom.

The Bucs have several players who have been with the team for several years, with that continuity allowing them to step up and take on bigger leadership roles. Guys like Mike Evans, Lavonte David, Chris Godwin, and Vita Vea have been in town for several years, and their comfort with the team has made them people that new players can look to for help.

Even though he’s been in the league for years, Bridgewater is one of the new guys who is adapting to being with the Buccaneers for the first time in his career in 2025. When looking at Tampa Bay’s clutch performances in each of their three wins, Bridgewater believes that leadership has helped the team remain calm in the tense situations they keep finding themselves in.

“I think these first three weeks of the season have shown the type of leadership this team has in these close games,” says Bridgewater in an interview with RG. “I’ve been a part of teams where you come out on the opposite end in these close games. Baker Mayfield and Lavonte David and the group of veterans that they have with Antoine Winfield Jr, those guys (are great). Me being on the sideline watching, it’s a special group.”

At the end of the day, the players go out and win football games in the NFL, and the Buccaneers have been remarkably poised in each of their three wins, as they have all come down to the wire. Bridgewater has seen lesser teams fall short in these sorts of games, but Tampa Bay never blinked when facing this sort of unique adversity, and it’s resulted in a strong start to the new season.

The Bucs will obviously be looking to win as many games as possible, but they will face their toughest challenge yet in Week 4 when they take on the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, who are also undefeated through three games. With kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, it’s clear this will be one of the most exciting matchups of the weekend, as one team will remain perfect, while the other will suffer its first loss of the year.
