The Detroit Red Wings have added more depth to their roster this offseason, and that could continue in a new trade pitch.
Heavy.com has a trade idea that sees the Red Wings adding Trevor Moore from the Los Angeles Kings in an intriguing move.
Red Wings acquire:
Kings acquire:
- Michael Rasmussen
- 2026 third-round pick
The proposed deal would be an intriguing one as Detroit would get the better player, but Los Angeles gets a younger player and a mid-round pick to make it even.
Detroit would acquire Moore, who would be a middle-six forward and add some secondary scoring to the lineup. He’s entering the third year of a five-year, $21 million deal. Moore can play either left or right wing. He recorded 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points in 71 games with the Kings last season.
In return, the Red Wings would give up a third-round pick and Rasmussen, who could use a change of scenery. Rasmussen was selected ninth overall in 2017 and is a good third-line center. Rasmussen is entering the second year of his four-year, $12.8 million deal. He recorded 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points last season. But, he would add some more youth to the Kings’ lineup.
Red Wings Coach Praises Rasmussen
Detroit coach Todd McLellan was impressed with Rasmussen.
McLellan took over just under halfway through the year after Derek Lalonde was fired. In just 48 games, McLellan was impressed with Rasmussen and his ability to play all over the lineup and in different situations.
“Well, he’s pretty trusting player,” McLellan said. “You can put him on the ice in a lot of different situations. Penalty kill, power play. He’s been able to check. He’s been able to play center or wing. So he kind of does a little bit of everything. He’s probably never going to score 40, but he’s going to get you 10 or 12 consistently. And that’s just what he is, a consistent, steady, good teammate. And we appreciate him for that.”
However, with the Red Wings in a nine-year playoff drought, he would be dealt to bring in Moore. Moore would add some much-needed secondary scoring to the Red Wings lineup and make them that much better of a team.
Moore Mentioned as Trade Candidate
Heading into the offseason, Moore’s name has come up in trade rumors.
Kings’ analyst Brandon Croce of RinkRoyalty named Moore a potential trade target heading into the season.
Moore has three more years left on his contract with an AAV of $4.2 million, which is not a salary that should scare teams away or require the Kings to retain salary to get a deal done, especially with the salary cap rising as much as it is over the next few years,” Croce wrote. He also doesn’t have any no-trade clauses as part of his contract, and that wouldn’t have to factor into any trade discussions the Kings might have.
If Moore is indeed available for trade, he would be highly sought after, and he does make sense for the Red Wings. Adding another top-six winger makes sense for Detroit, and Moore would be just that.
