The Edmonton Oilers might be best served by doing their Trade Deadline shopping with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Their bitter NHL rivals to the east are in selling mode, according to insider Elliotte Friedman. And while the Oilers could turn to the New York Rangers to add elite talent, the Maple Leafs have multiple pieces Edmonton could add to its roster to increase its odds of a third consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearance.
In fact, seven different Maple Leafs players could be of interest to the Oilers.
The Edmonton Oilers Can Take Advantage of a Bad Toronto Maple Leafs Situation
It’s official, according to Sportnet, the Maple Leafs are open for business and willing to trade.
“The Toronto Maple Leafs are open for business,” a February 1st article has written. “Toronto has begun the process of calling around the league and seeing ‘what’s available to them,’ according to Elliotte Friedman on the Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night In Canada.”
“The Maple Leafs (24-21-9) sat last in the Atlantic Division going into Saturday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, and entered the contest on an NHL-worst six-game losing streak.”
The Maple Leafs currently have $2,171,559 in salary cap space.
7 Maple Leafs Players the Oilers Could Trade For
In the same Sportsnet piece, they list Scott Laughton and Bobby McMann as players who could be on the move. However, that’s not the only trade board featuring Maple Leafs members.
Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos has both McMann and Anthony Stolarz on his trade board. Stolarz has previously played for the Oilers, but really came into his own last season, playing Vezina-worthy hockey before a season-ending injury.
Kypreos believes that McMann is the most likely Maple Leafs player to be traded.
“In many ways, he could be one of the most sought-after wingers at the deadline because he’s the easiest to fit in with a $1.35-million cap hit,” Kypreos wrote on February 2nd, 2026. “Something every contender could manage, from Colorado to Florida, Anaheim, Ottawa … you name it.”
While Kypreos names the Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, and Anaheim Ducks here, the Oilers would also make a ton of sense.
Long Shot Maple Leafs Trade Options
There are other names floating around as trade candidates who could also be helpful additions for the Oilers.
Chris Johnston of The Athletic has defenseman Simon Benoit listed on his trade board.
“A prototypical defensive defenseman who puts his body on the line by blocking shots and playing opponents physically, Benoit has endured some recent scratches,” Johnston wrote on January 28th, 2026. “The Leafs have a number of depth options at the position, and Benoit represents a player who could bring back some value with a cap-friendly contract that runs through next season.”
Pagnotta has a few players on his trade board that could be surprising additions to the Oilers’ roster. He has Max Domi, Mattias Maccelli, and Morgan Rielly as potential trade options approaching the Trade Deadline.
The Oilers have shown interest in Maccelli, so there could be a potential trade. Andrew Mangiapane was linked to the Maple Leafs before he signed with the Oilers. A simple hockey trade to give each player a fresh start might be in order.
No matter which way the Oilers go, they definitely have a few options to consider before the Olympic roster freeze and the March Trade Deadline.
