While the Edmonton Oilers have their sights trained on a third straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Final, one of the last things that they can afford right now is an injury to one of their key players.
However, that’s the situation that they find themselves in currently. During Sunday evening’s clash at home against the visiting Nashville Predators, forward Leon Draisaitl took an awkward hit from Nashville’s Ozzy Wiesblatt, and didn’t return to the game.
While head coach Kris Knoblauch didn’t have an immediate status update on Draisaitl’s health following the game, the most recent information that he’s relayed isn’t exactly encouraging.
The Edmonton Oilers Don’t Know How Long Leon Draisaitl Will Be Out
According to head coach Kris Knoblauch on Monday, there isn’t a specific timeline for Draisaitl’s return to the ice.
“Draisaitl has lower body injury via Knoblauch,” wrote Oilers Insider Jason Gregor on X. “Draisaitl was at doctor this morning while team skated so Knoblauch has no timeline on how long he might be out.”
Earlier in the contest, Draisaitl had extended his personal point streak to nine straight games, having scored six goals with 11 assists during that span.
Right now, the Oilers are ranked third overall in the Pacific Division, but are only a single point up on being in the first overall Wild Card position in the Western Conference, with the Utah Mammoth only four points behind them. The San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings are also uncomfortably close in Edmonton’s rear view mirror.
Draisaitl has put together another elite campaign for the Oilers, having tallied 35 goals with 62 assists for 97 points in the 65 games that he’s played in.
