The New York Rangers are entering a big offseason. After disappointing mightily during the 2025-26 season and kicking off a retool, it is clear that the Rangers should be watched very closely during the summer.

While the Rangers are expected to be open to moving out players during the offseason, they will also likely look to bring in new talent. One of their top needs heading into the summer is another impactful winger in their top six, and this is especially so when noting that they traded Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings this season.

Because of this, the Rangers have now been named a potential free-agent destination for a star forward from the Buffalo Sabres.

New York Rangers Named Potential Landing Spot for Sabres Star Forward Alex Tuch

With the Sabres being eliminated by the Montreal Canadiens in Game 7 of the second round on Monday night, Bleacher Report’s Lucky Ngamwajasat looked at a handful of teams that could sign Tuch during the summer.

Among the clubs that Ngamwajasat named as top potential landing spots for Tuch included the Rangers.

“The Blueshirts found something late in the season with a top line of Alexis Lafrenière, Mika Zibanejad, and Gabe Perreault, but the rest of the top-six forwards leave a lot to be desired. New York has around $26.8 million available in cap space and could have enough money to make a competitive offer to Tuch on the open market,” Ngamwajasat wrote.

With the Rangers being in need of another star in their top six, it would not be particularly surprising if they tried to sign Tuch. He would have the potential to be a strong fit on their second line and would be an obvious option for their power play because of his offensive skill.

Tuch would have the potential to form a strong trio with J.T. Miller and Will Cuylle if signed. This would undoubtedly make the Rangers’ forward group stronger heading into next season, which is a big need for them.

In 79 games this season with the Sabres, Tuch had 33 goals, 66 points, 82 hits, and a plus-24 rating. With numbers like these, the 6-foot-4 forward would certainly give the Rangers’ forward group a major boost if signed.

Tuch Should Have a Ton of Suitors If He Tests Free Agency Besides the Rangers

Given Tuch’s importance to the Sabres’ roster, it is very likely that they will work hard to re-sign him. However, if he decides to test the market, he should garner a lot of interest around the league. This is because he is the NHL’s best pending UFA forward this year and is exactly the kind of top-six power forward that teams will always value.

Due to this, the Rangers would have a lot of competition if they tried to sign Tuch this off-season. However, the Rangers need to improve their offense if they hope to be more competitive next season. Because of this, it would make sense if they tried to sign Tuch during the summer. It will be intriguing to see if they do just that from here.
