The New York Rangers are currently open for business and listening to trade offers for several of their players. Rangers GM Chris Drury recently started his team’s retool by offloading superstar forward Artemi Panarin. The team’s best player was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings because he was set to become an unrestricted free agent.
The Panarin trade is only just the beginning of the upcoming moves for New York. Several other players are expected to depart the Big Apple in the coming days. While NHL teams are currently in a roster freeze, they are allowed to once again make moves on February 23. Vincent Trocheck is the most high-profile Rangers player likely to join a new team ahead of the March 6 deadline.
Nevertheless, the veteran center is likely not be the only New York player to be dealt soon. Braden Schneider, Alexis Lafrenière, and Sam Carrick have all been linked with a possible move out of town in recent weeks. One player, however, who is expected to remain with the Rangers is goaltender Jonathan Quick.
Quick is now claiming that he wants to see out the remainder of the current contract with the club. “I’m happy here. I want to be here,” Quick told media members on February 19, as reported by the New York Post. “It means a lot to me to wear this jersey.”
Jonathan Quick has been a Quality Backup Goalie for the New York Rangers

GettyJonathan Quick is set to become a free agent in the summer.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion has been regarded as one of the top backup goalies in the NHL since joining the Rangers. Quick was brought in ahead of the 2023-24 season as the number two behind Vezina award winner Igor Shesterkin. The decision has paid off for New York. In his first two years with the club, Quick posted a combined .903 save rate and five shutouts in 46 starts.
Quick’s solid performances earned him a one-year, $1.55 million extension for the current campaign. Although his numbers have dipped a little bit in 2025-26, he remains a solid backup at the age of 40. He has also stepped up as New York’s main starter ever since Shesterkin went down with an injury on January 5.
Earlier this week, the goalie revealed his intentions for the coming months. “When I signed the contract, I planned on honoring the contract,” stated Quick. “The focus is always where you’re at and what you’re doing currently. That’s where the focus has been and will continue to be.”
Several NHL Contenders Likely Looking for a New Goaltender
Although Quick is edging closer to retirement, he would still be a solid pickup for a playoff team looking for goaltending help. Several contenders are dealing with issues between the pipes and likely eyeing reinforcements before the deadline. The Edmonton Oilers are the most obvious team to potentially have interest in acquiring a new goalie.
Other teams would also likely love to bring in a netminder with Stanley Cup experience. It remains to be seen if Drury and the Rangers would have seriously pursued a trade involving Quick. The pending free agent, however, does have a 20-team no-trade clause in his contract with the club.
