Lindsey Vonn is officially out of the hospital!
The beloved Olympic skier shared a new video on Instagram on Monday, Feb. 23, revealing the news to her fans, while also providing some additional details on the extent of her injuries.
“After almost 2 weeks of laying in a hospital bed almost completely immobile, I’m finally well enough to move to a hotel. It’s not home yet, but it’s a huge step,” she captioned the video, going on to detail what’s next.
“Now I will focus on rehab and progressing from a wheelchair to crutches in a few weeks. It will take around a year for all of the bones to heal and then I will decide if I want to take out all the metal or not, and then go back into surgery and finally fix my ACL,” she added. “It will be a long road but I’ll get there. At least I’m out of the hospital 🙌🏻💪🏻.”
Lindsey Vonn Shares Scary Update
In the video, Vonn revealed that the crash, which occurred after she clipped a gate 13 seconds into her run on Feb. 8, resulted in compartment syndrome in the leg, which is “a painful buildup of pressure around your muscles,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.
“When you have so much trauma to one area of your body so that there’s too much blood and it gets stuck and it basically crushes everything,” Vonn said, adding that Dr. Tom Hackett saved her leg by performing surgery so soon after the incident.
“He filleted it open (and) let it breathe, and he saved me,” she said, adding that Hackett was there because she was competing on a torn ACL.
“If I hadn’t had done that, Tom wouldn’t have been there (and he) wouldn’t have been able to save my leg,” she added.
At the moment, Vonn is “very much immobile,” being stuck in a wheelchair for the time being.
