Skier Mikaela Shiffrin is one of the more decorated athletes at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics.
All eyes were on her Wednesday when she competed in the slalom final — an event she not only won but dominated in in historic fashion.
Shiffrin won gold by a 1.50-second margin of victory over silver medalist Camille Rast of Switzerland, marking the largest margin of victory in an alpine skiing event in the Olympics since 1998.
She also became the first U.S. alpine skier to win three Olympic gold medals, capping off what many believe to be the final race of a historic Olympic career.

Given her accolades, Shiffrin was in high demand following her gold medal triumph.
She appeared on the “Today” show on Thursday morning to talk about her success, and she accidentally swore live on air.
“There’s been, definitely, a spiritual journey I’ve been on the last year,” Shiffrin stated. “I just, I don’t know, I took a moment and I said … f—ing. S—! Oh my God, I’m so sorry.”
“We got you,” host Hoda Kotb replied. “We’ll pay the (FCC) fine.”
“We know what you meant,” fellow host Craig Melvin added. “We know what you meant. You’re wearing gold! It’s okay. It’s okay.”
Shiffrin felt actual remorse for her gaffe, and she took to social media to issue a public apology for the incident.
“Definitely rational and logical. Ooooopsie!! Sorry to everyone for swearing on live TV today. Twice 😅😅,” Shiffrin wrote on her Instagram story.

Shiffrin hit Instagram immediately after her gold medal win on Wednesday and unloaded her emotional gas tank.
She explained exactly what she went through leading up to the slalom event and reflected on how much the win truly meant to her. In the process, she dropped yet another F-bomb while basking in the glory of her accomplishment.
“I won. I looked around at all of my peers and competitors. I wondered if they too felt this way. I felt a short moment of resentment… why do you all have to be so damn good at this too? Why can’t it be easier? And then, I felt immense appreciation. Thank you for pushing me.
“Thank you for always being kind and understanding and fierce and strong. Thank you for either leading the way, or following right behind, so that we, together, can break barriers and raise the level of our sport.
“I won. I [expletive] won. This, right here, is the lottery and I won. Oh, and I got a medal too.”
In her Olympic career, Shiffrin has won four medals. She earned gold in the slalom at the 2014 Sochi Games, gold in the giant slalom in the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, and gold in slalom in the 2026 Milano Cortina Games. She also claimed silver in the combined event in the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.
