Savannah Guthrie was slated to lead NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics later this week, but the network announced on Tuesday that she will remain with family amid the ongoing search for her mother.
New details are emerging on the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing and likely endangered. Officials in Arizona have launched a wide-ranging search, one that has pulled in more than 100 sheriff’s deputies and includes homicide detectives.
After early reports that Guthrie was pulling out of coverage of the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, NBC released an official statement confirming the move and sharing thoughts for Guthrie and her family.
“Savannah will not be joining us at the Olympics as she focuses on being with her family during this difficult time,” an NBC Sports spokesperson said on Wednesday, via E! Online. “Our hearts are with her and the entire Guthrie family as the search continues for their mother.”
No Replacement Yet for Savannah Guthrie
The NBC spokesperson did not announce yet who would be replacing Guthrie, who was scheduled to anchor the network’s coverage starting with Friday’s opening ceremony.
“We will share additional information about our Opening Ceremony coverage plans soon,” the network noted.
Guthrie had not commented on the coverage, focusing on her family while releasing a statement asking for help in gathering clues about her mother’s disappearance.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520) 351-4900.”
New Details Emerge on Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance
The Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday that there were signs of a violent encounter in Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home.
“According to law enforcement sources not authorized to speak about the case publicly, someone appeared to have forced their way inside, and there was blood at the scene,” the report noted. “Images reviewed by The Times showed blood spatters near the front door of the home. A security camera frame at Guthrie’s front door was empty, though it was unclear for how long.”
The report added that many of Guthrie’s essential items — including her wallet, car, cellphone, and important daily medication — were left behind in the home.
There were also signs that Guthrie may have been kidnapped for ransom, the Los Angeles Times added, though it did not appear that the information was verified.
“Authorities on Tuesday said they couldn’t rule out that she was kidnapped for ransom,” the report noted. “Several news outlets received a possible ransom note. TMZ reported on an alleged note it received demanding millions in cryptocurrency for Guthrie’s release. The outlet did not report when or how it received the note, nor did it reveal the entirety of its contents, but did say the note had been turned over to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which is leading the investigation.”
