In a stunning turn of events, Brock Lesnar left his gloves and boots in the center of the ring following his loss to Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42 on Sunday, suggesting he had wrestled his last match in a WWE ring.
Lesnar would hug Paul Heyman, his longtime manager, and bid fans at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas farewell before walking up the ramp.
So, has Brock Lesnar, 48, really retired?
After Sunday’s festivities, Paul “Triple H” Levesque — the Chief Content Officer of WWE — all but confirmed that the “Beast Incarnate” was done with pro wrestling.
Brock Lesnar Retires
“It certainly seemed that way,” Triple H said of Lesnar calling it quits.
“Brock is not a walk back through the curtain and have a long conversation kind of guy,” Triple H added. “Brock is a guy who walks back through the curtain very angry and goes to his bus, and that’s the end of it.”
Levesque revealed that he was unaware of Lesnar’s decision to retire on Sunday and that the former UFC Heavyweight Champion made an impromptu call in the ring.
“There was no discussion [after the match], but I will say this: he will probably go down as the most famous combat sports athlete of our generation.
“One of a kind — there was nobody like Brock Lesnar,” Triple H added.
Oba Femi Dominates Brock Lesnar
Triple H praised Lesnar’s “mind” for the pro wrestling business, while highlighting that the University of Minnesota alum was misperceived by fans as a “hulking brute” and that he doesn’t get enough credit for being cerebral.
“There comes a point in time when somebody comes along that’s bigger, badder and pushes you to a place you can’t come back from,” HHH said of Lesnar’s loss to Femi.
“The smart ones know when that happens, and they call it a day.
“I think Brock walked into a wall called Oba Femi, the next Big Thing, and the intelligence in him said, ‘Maybe I should call it a day.'”
There was earlier speculation that Lesnar would have his retirement match against “Career Killer” GUNTHER at the 2026 SummerSlam, which will be held in his hometown of Minneapolis. While Lesnar was born in South Dakota and currently resides in Saskatchewan, Canada, he continues to be billed from Minneapolis because of his extensive sporting background in Minnesota.
For what it’s worth, Lesnar noted earlier this year he returned to WWE only for a brief pit stop.
“I’m the old guy now,” Lesnar said of returning to WWE after a few years away from the company.
“I went back to work [for WWE] so I could feed my kids,” he added. “You guys should see my grocery bill. I had left the company years ago, and I’m grateful that I’m back for a short time here. I’m really grateful for all the opportunities that I’ve had in my life.”
