One of the biggest pro wrestling stars today is Drew McIntyre, who is the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion. McIntyre has been a constant presence on television over the past year, but it seems like he’s getting a break after WrestleMania 42.

According to BodySlam+, McIntyre is reportedly taking some time off after WrestleMania 42. He’s not injured or getting rest, but he’s scheduled to film “Highlander,” along with WWE legend Dave Bautista, Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe.

McIntyre is set to portray Angus MacLeod, as reported by Variety. Angus is the brother of Cavill’s character, Connor MacLeod, who is the titular “Highlander.” It will be The Scottish Warrior’s second movie after appearing as a villain in Bautista’s “The Killer’s Game” in September 2024.

McIntyre to Defend WWE Title on SmackDown

At Elimination Chamber: Chicago, McIntyre interfered in the main event to cost Cody Rhodes another shot at the Undiputed WWE Championship. It allowed Randy Orton to become the No.1 contender for McIntyre’s title at WrestleMania 42

However, SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis had enough of McIntyre’s antics since he also eliminated Rhodes at the Royal Rumble. He even cost Jacob Fatu a shot at qualifying for the Elimination Chamber.

Aldis announced on the Elimination Chamber: Chicago postshow that McIntyre will defend his championship against The American Nightmare this Friday on SmackDown.

The Scottish Psychopath couldn’t believe it and almost came to blows with Aldis before securty and agents prevented chaos.

McIntyre losing WWE Title?

According to Self Made Pro, McIntyre could be losing his title to Rhodes on SmackDown. The current plan for WrestleMania 42 is for The American Nightmare to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton.

PW Insider Elite also reported the same outcome, with Rhodes vs. Orton at WrestleMania 42 being planned for some time. It should be noted that there were reports last month that McIntyre could defend his championship in a multi-man match against Rhodes, Orton, Jacob Fatu, Aleister Black and Sami Zayn.

Speaking to Complex Graps, McIntyre debunked that rumor with a logical explanation.

“The way I see it is, why did we have Elimination Chamber if it’s not a one-on-one match?” McIntyre said. “Right now it’s myself and Randy Orton. I got to go in there Friday and get through Cody.”

Those plans seem to be out of the window anyway, as per Fightful Select. Rhodes vs. Orton has been reportedly planned since January, though BodySlam+ countered that it was only finalized last month.

WrestleMania 42 Plans for McIntyre

If McIntyre is losing the Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown, who will he face at WrestleMania 42? According to BodySlam+, McIntyre is expected to face Fatu at The Grandest Stage of Them All in Las Vegas.

The duo had a story late last year that was halted after The Samoan Werewolf had to undergo dental surgery. He was written out of television with a backstage attack, though the perpetrator has yet to be identified.

If McIntyre vs. Fatu is indeed the plan for WrestleMania 42, it’s likely that The Scottish Psychopath could be revealed as the attacker.
