Things are heating up in WWE’s NXT brand as the follow-up from Heatwave headlines the next episode of their weekly TV series. Viewers on The CW are in for a treat as the road to No Mercy begins.
NXT’s Premium Live Event schedule features No Mercy on September 27 with Halloween Havoc taking place on October 25. Both shows are on Saturdays’ as the September 16 edition of NXT TV will be a special ticketed event, one dubbed “Homecoming” as the show returns to Full Sail.
The Fallout from NXT Heatwave: Two New Champions Crowned
Heatwave kicked off with a bang as the crowd in Lowell, MA saw Lola Vice crown herself #1 contender to the NXT Women’s Championship. That title has been held by Jacy Jayne since May 27 when she shocked the world and defeated Stephanie Vaquer.
Jayne has successful title defenses against Lainey Reid, Jordynne Grace, and TNA’s Masha Slamovich. Her win over Slamovich allowed her to capture the TNA Knockouts Title and become a double champion. Sadly for Jayne, one of the new champions crowned at Heatwave came at the expense of her Knockouts title.
Shockingly, it’s not the first time a TNA Title has changed hands at an NXT event. Back at Battleground, Joe Hendry suffered a major loss for the promotion as their World Title was in the hands of NXT superstar, Trick Williams.
Ash By Elegance was the one to bring the Knockouts title home to the TNA brand. Heather and M By Elegance were driving forces, along with The Personal Concierge as The Elegance Brand now holds all of the Knockouts gold in TNA.
Prior to Elegance winning the triple threat match, DarkState captured the NXT Tag Team Championships. Hank and Tank’s reign was cut short as Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin stepped up to the plate to end their 127 day run as champions.
Setting the Stage for NXT No Mercy
Even though Blake Monroe defeated Jordynne Grace, she’s going to have to wait awhile to get her hands on the NXT Women’s Championship. Vice’s win guarantees her a future title opportunity, one that could come in Fort Lauderdale. NXT PLE’s tend to take place outside of Florida, but this will be the second one this year remaining in the state.
With Jayne vs. Vice all but confirmed to take place on the card, the show’s main event came to fruition at the end of Heatwave. Je’Von Evans nearly shocked the world with an upset victory, but in the end it was Oba Femi who remained champion. Evans is forced to go to the back of the line as Ricky Saints confronted the big-man after his victory.
After just two matches in the company, Saints captured the NXT North American Championship. He held that belt for just 56 days before Ethan Page took it from his hands. With his only two real losses coming at the hands of the current NA Champion, Saints knows he has a case to challenge for Femi’s title.
There are five episodes of NXT TV before No Mercy takes place. There’s a chance either Jayne vs. Vice or Saints vs. Femi could take place on the Homecoming episode, but at this point they stand out as clear title bouts to be featured on the third edition of NXT: No Mercy.
