Germany has announced its full 26-player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It’s the twenty-first time the country has qualified for the FIFA World Cup. With four World Cup trophies (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014), Germany is second only to Brazil as the most successful country ever. Surprisingly, the German team didn’t make it out of the group stage in the last two tournaments.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann announced the full squad earlier today. Team captain Joshua Kimmich is one of the most experienced players on the team. The 31-year-old Bayern Munich star player is one of the key players in Nagelsmann’s squad. Other important players in the squad are Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), Kai Havertz (Arsenal), Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich), Leroy Sané (Galatasaray), and Nick Woltemade (Newcastle United).
Germany’s main goal scorer, Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry, will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to injury. Nagelsmann surprised everyone earlier this week by adding Manuel Neuer to the squad. The 40-year-old German goalkeeper reversed his 2024 international retirement to compete in his fifth and final World Cup.

Qualification For The 2026 FIFA World Cup
Germany had to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in a group with Slovakia, Northern Ireland, and Luxembourg. On September 4, 2025, the Germans started the campaign with a shock 2-0 defeat in Bratislava against Slovakia. It was a wake-up call for the four-time champion. Driven by goals from Serge Gnabry and Nick Woltemade, Germany strung together four consecutive wins.
Thanks to Slovakia’s away loss against Northern Ireland, both teams found themselves level at the top of the group with twelve points from five games. Germany’s goal differential was much better. On November 17, 2025, Germany took on Slovakia in Leipzig for a direct ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Knowing a draw would secure qualification, the Germans refused to settle for anything less than a victory. They trashed Slovakia 6-0 to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
