Grigor Dimitrov set to miss the US Open following pectoral injury at Wimbledon.

After partially tearing his pectoral muscle during the 2025 Wimbledon Round of 16, Grigor Dimitrov will now miss the US Open.

Bulgarian outlet TennisKafe, which broke early details about Dimitrov’s injury earlier this month, shared the news with fans on Monday, reporting that the ATP veteran’s manager, Georgi Stoimenov, confirmed Dimitrov will miss the US Open.

Last year, the former world No. 3 reached the quarterfinals of the US Open, notably defeating No. 6-seeded Andrey Rublev in the Round of 16. During his quarterfinal match with American Frances Tiafoe, however, Dimitrov wound up having to withdraw in the fourth set while down 4-1 due to a groin injury.

At the time, his withdrawal marked the second of what would be five straight retirements in Grand Slam matches, with a hip injury since forcing him out of the Australian Open in January, a thigh injury forcing him out of Roland Garros in May, and then his recent pectoral injury forcing him out of Wimbledon.

With Grigor Dimitrov‘s withdrawal from the US Open, his streak of playing in 58 consecutive Grand Slams now comes to an end.

So far, Dimitrov has yet to release a statement on the matter via social media.

Grigor Dimitrov’s Injury Expected To Keep Him Sidelined Through August

According to TennisKafe, the pectoral injury Dimitrov suffered at Wimbledon will keep him sidelined through the month of August.

Per the outlet’s report, the hope is that the former top-10 player will return to play the Asian swing of the ATP Tour starting in late September.

From the sounds of things, Dimitrov’s first tournament back could be the China Open, set to take place in Beijing from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1.

After that, Dimitrov will likely play the Rolex Shanghai Masters, starting in early October, before the EU hard court swing of the tour throughout October and November.

Looking Back at Grigor Dimitrov’s Heatbreaking Streak of Withdrawals in Grand Slams

As previously mentioned, Grigor Dimitrov’s withdrawal from Wimbledon marked his fifth straight withdrawal in a Grand Slam.

Last season, Dimitrov made it all the way to the Round of 16 at Wimbledon before being forced to retire in the first set of his showdown with Daniil Medvedev due to a groin injury. While he managed to return in time for the US Open, in the fourth set of his quarterfinal showdown with Frances Tiafoe, Dimitrov went down with another injury.

Following the match, Dimitrov was quoted by ATPTour.com as saying:

“I think it’s a combination of everything. Clearly my rehab process is a little bit slower than before. I mean, I felt a couple of things prior to the match. It’s the game. It’s just the game, and I need to keep my head up.”

While he hoped to put together a healthy 2025 season, back in January he withdrew from the Australian Open with a hip injury, before retiring from his first-round match at the French Open this year due to a thigh injury.

On the heels of his Wimbledon injury against Jannik Sinner, and his withdrawal from the US Open, fans will have to wait until the 2026 Australian Open to see Dimitrov play a best-of-five match again.
