Brazilian magazine/website Tatame reported today that the UFC and WEC would be merging in early 2010. A version of this exact report seems to crop up every few months and is constantly shot down as a rumor, and this story is no different.
We contacted Dave Sholler, public relations director for the WEC, to get his take on today’s Tatame story.
“There is no truth to this story whatsoever,” said Sholler.
There you have it: the UFC and WEC are not merging. In fact, WEC general manager Reed Harris told Heavy.com last month that they have WEC cards planned through the summer of 2010. The company is here for the long haul, and I’d urge you not to believe these “merger” stories in the future — at least not until you hear it from Reed Harris or Dave Sholler.
