Carwin / Mir Bout Agreements Signed

Despite Frank Mir’s curious public claims to the contrary, Heavy.com has learned that bout agreements for the Mir/Carwin interim championship fight at UFC 111 have been distributed and signed by both fighters.

Carwin was originally scheduled to face Brock Lesnar for the heavyweight title in November, but a Lesnar illness forced the cancellation of the bout. It was moved to UFC 108 but was canceled again when Lesnar was revealed to have diverticulitis, an intestinal disorder that indefinitely postponed his return.

Though it’s not being billed as a tournament, the Carwin/Mir winner is expected to face the winner of the Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira/Cain Velasquez fight, which takes place one month earlier at UFC 110 in Australia. The current idea is for the mini-tournament winner to face Lesnar when he returns for a title unification bout.

UFC 111 takes place on Mar. 27 in Newark, New Jersey. It will likely be headlined by a welterweight championship bout between Georges St. Pierre and Dan Hardy.
